If you can't fit a Christmas tree...

We have moved to a new house this year that has a tiny living room. I mean tiny, we can't even get a 3 seater sofa in here. I'm really struggling to think how we can shoehorn in a Christmas tree. We do have a small Kallax unit that a (very) small tree could stand on top of, and there's a fireplace for a nice garland, but definitely not the lovely tall bushy tree we're used to having.

No space in the hall for a big tree either and we don't have a dining room here. Very first world problems but it's really going to bother me.

Wondering if anyone is similarly afflicted with a ridiculously small living room and what you do, be it tiny trees, pencil trees, something hung on the wall etc.

I don't think we can get the kallax in the bedroom. Actually we could get it in the shed, now there's an idea.

This was going to be my suggestion. It can be a bit cramped for Christmas, its part of the fun!

Turn the pouf into a tree?

MichaelAndEagle · 16/11/2022 07:12

TV on top of kallax? Tree in that corner?

brighterthanthemoon · 16/11/2022 07:14

If you can't see tv from that sofa do you use it? If not put tree in front of fireplace

Neilsfavouritechilli · 16/11/2022 07:18

How about a teeny one from Bloom and Wild www.bloomandwild.com/send-flowers/tagonly/christmas-trees

Baboutheocelot · 16/11/2022 07:19

What about a wall hanging Christmas tree to go on the chimney breast. You can get ones that are pre lit.

Yes these are good. I send one to my brother every year he lives in tiny flat

brighterthanthemoon · 16/11/2022 07:20

Is there any space in the kitchen?

SpacePotato · 16/11/2022 07:20

If you can only see the tv on one end of each couch anyway, put the tv in front of the window facing couch 1 and put tree in that corner.
You won't be losing any tv watching space then.

I would also get a tree in a pot and put it by the front door to make me happy every time I got home!

Small ones? The fireplace is quite tall.

Oh good shout, I'll definitely do this! We used to have a lovely real xmas tree in a pot in our old garden, my friend had it when it was tiny but it grew too big for her. It looked so pretty with lots of tiny lights.

Yeah we do still use it all the time. They're only 2x 2 seaters.

Tree in front of fireplace is definitely not possible. It's a very deep chimney breast and the fireplace itself is deep (hence blocking the telly from half of the second sofa), a tree in front of it would make the entire room unusable.

None whatsoever.

Does fireplace work? If not tree in fireplace?

evilharpy · 16/11/2022 07:27

Yeah fireplace works and we light the fire regularly.

I would do an amazing garland over the fireplace instead

musicandpassion · 16/11/2022 07:33

Could you get a nice potted one and put it in front of that window? Get some outdoor lights and some hardy baubles?

SBAM · 16/11/2022 07:33

We have a 4ft John Lewis ‘fireside’ tree, that goes on top of a sideboard (originally bought for there so the children couldn’t reach my glass baubles). I put a nice tree skirt around the base (I have a tartan one, from Wilko) and I think it looks good. I think it helps that it’s on something so it is at head height for an adult as you walk in, I had it on the floor one year for the kids to decorate and it didn’t have the same impact.

Iguanainanigloo · 16/11/2022 07:34

What size/shape is the kallax? If it's a 2x2 it will probably have to go, but if it's one of the 4x1 or 4x2 ones and you have it lengthways along the floor, you could tip it and have it "tallways" (fuck knows if that's a word) and put the Xmas tree next to it?

evilharpy · 16/11/2022 07:36

I like that John Lewis one, it's a lot more tree-looking and less tinselly than lots of the small ones I've seen.

This!!! I always dreaded doing the tree, and once the dc knew the truth about Father Christmas the magic was gone. I did persevere putting up the tree, but when we down sized that was it!!!!! I freed myself from the Tyranny of The Tree and bought a large gorgeous faux garland, it's dripping with baubles and lights and just an absolute joy to me.

Geneticsbunny · 16/11/2022 07:53

IKEA do a tree which is printed on a roll of fabric. It is surprisingly realistic. You could put it on the wall at the bottom of your diagram , at the side of the sofa. We use pins to add decorations and lights to ours.

silverclock222 · 16/11/2022 08:01

I have a fabulous overmantle event going on and if it was up to me I wouldn't have a tree. One year I had mini trees sitting on the hearth, one at each side - kind of like this but smaller trees - was really pretty.

InezOz · 16/11/2022 08:01

How about using the window? Could you use a string of little led lights and put it up in a tree shape using removable tape?
