Basic lego sets

I have asked under toys but didn't get much response. I'm looking for a lego set that contains large bricks, windows and roof tiles like we had in the 70's. I have boot from charity shops and have loads if Tony prices but still not enough to build houses, forts etc. Looked on eBay and literally 1,000s of listing all a bit overwhelming.

I think we need more bigger bricks, sorry about typos in my PP I meant we have loads of tiny peices.

I'm not sure if there are sets as such quite what you want. Can't you just order items from the Lego website - that's what DH did when DD was at that stage. A big baseplate, lots of basic building bricks, roof bricks, window and door pieces, that sort of thing I don't think it was cheap though.

Unless you go for Duplo they don't sell sets with just big bricks. The one I linked is part of their classic range, which is basic bricks and promotes free building. If you just want basic bricks without smaller pieces, then you're going to have to buy them seperately from Lego bricks and pieces, Bricklink or Brick owl.

Yes, unfortunately, all 'basic sets' that lego sells in a box will contain huge amounts of unusual pieces and only very few building bricks. I've therefore also bought a bag of 200 8-dot-pieces and roof tiles/windows separately at brickshop (a belgian website). The advantage is that it is much cheaper than the boxes; the disadvantage is that you usually buy 100 or 200 pieces in one colour only.
