Beginner’s crochet kit

My DD (12) has asked for a beginner’s crochet kit.

I do not sew, knit or crochet, but am keen to encourage her to get into crocheting if she fancies it! I don’t know what to get her that she could do herself, ie a kit that’s not too challenging for a beginner.

Can anyone advise? I know this is kind of niche!

Knitty Critters. You get all the yarn, hooks and the pattern. Very easy to follow!

And I recommend Bella Coco on YouTube for videos on different stitches

Oh wow thank you so much! Brilliant! Was not expecting any responses. This sounds perfect!

Hi I am a keen crocheter so hoping I can help.
I would get her a cheap set of crochet hooks, some acrylic yarn in a couple different colours to start her off and a how to book (maybe one that shows her how to do a few granny squares). Alternatively she can learn from youtube but I loved how to books when I learned as a teenager.

I also have a 12 year old newbie crochet enthusiast! How difficult are the knitty critter sets? It looks quite the leap from a wobbly string!

There are some great beginner crochet videos on YouTube, but the one thing to be careful of is that the UK and US use the same words to describe different stitches, so just make sure she’s watching videos that explain which terminology they’re using. I learned this the hard way trying to teach myself and wasted a lot of time.

Lidl often have cheap crochet kits you get everything you need.

Do not buy a kit from Aldi, they are not for beginners and often the instructions have been translated incorrectly. I am very experienced at crocheting and sometimes struggle with the kits.

Attic 24 is a fab blog by a lady called Lucy

She has many many tutorials for blankets and smaller crocheted things - great for ideas once you managed the tricky first steps

I came on to suggest attic 24 too! You can buy the blanket kits on wool warehouse and the instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The finished blankets are gorgeous too.
