Christmas cupboard

It is my dream to have one big wardrobe or cupboard just for christmas decorations (although I never will).

I would so love to have a lovely big old fashioned wardrobe where I can keep all my christmas decorations, jigsaw puzzles, books, everything. At this moment they sit in two big drawers under my bed.

Do you have christmas wardrobe? And if you do, would you like to share the picture?

And one language question because english is obviously not my first language.
What word should I use? As I understand cupboard is used for storing food and wardrobe for storing clothes and linen and things like that.

So what is the word for a wardrobe where you keep your christmas decorations and things connected with Christmas?

I used the word cupboard beacuse it sounds more christmassy.

To me a cupboard and wardrobe are similar things. A wardrobe can be described as a cupboard quite safely so I’d stick with that. Sadly I don’t have a Christmas Cupboard. It mostly lives under my bed and stashed around the house. But it would be lovely. I dream of a Christmas room- with a pasting table set up as a wrapping table and a tree up all year round. Lol

I'm with PP Christmas Cupboard is the perfect description for what it is. To me a cupboard is a place to store items.

I had a shelf in the top of the cupboard at the top of the stairs. However, it's now all packed and stashed behind the sofa as we're in the process of moving house. It'll just go in the attic in our new home.

Christmas cupboard sound so lovely. I have found this picture online and I dream about something like that.

My Christmas decorations are all stored in the loft in plastic storage boxes. All very functional. Goodness knows what I am going to to do when I get too old to get up into the loft.

Other things for Christmas such as wrapping paper is kept with other wrapping paper in a cupboard in the study. Christmas books are kept with other books etc. (I must dig out those books now and choose one or two to read this year). Ditto for DVDs/CDs etc although we don’t use them much nowadays and am really peeved off that the new car doesn’t have a CD player.

I do like the thought of a Christmas cupboard, but sadly I don’t think that is ever going to happen.

I have a Christmas wardrobe and two Christmas cupboards. I also have big baubles boxes on top of wardrobes, and a spare (boxed) tree also lives here. I really can’t buy any more decorations. 😂

ChillinwiththeVillains · 10/11/2022 10:20

I have Christmas trunks and boxes with my festive stash. But agree that to have it all in a massive cupboard and close the doors on it would be fab. Also have stuff for birthdays, Halloween, CNY… . May need a celebration room full of cupboards!

JuneOsborne · 10/11/2022 10:23

Same as op, mine are in stacking really useful boxes in the loft. I have, however just seen that they donstorsge racks for the boxes and I'm wondering if we bought the right size!

Oops, I meant pp not op!

I think Christmas cupboards like that one are for people in big houses! I have a few cardboard boxes in the wardrobe in the spare room.

kateandme · 10/11/2022 10:38

Loft for us.but if I had room enough for a Christmas cupboard it wouldn’t be a Christmas cupboard!
I was hearing on the radio how we should all start re using decorations.and how people buy new decorations every year and was shocked.

escapingthecity · 10/11/2022 10:42

@kateandme people do that?!?! We reuse the same decorations every year and part of the pleasure of it is getting the old friends out of their box after 11 months.

We moved house a few weeks before Christmas once and asked friends not to bring gifts to our housewarming party except a tree decoration and now we have such a lovely mismatched mix with memories of our favourite people.

psuedocream3 · 10/11/2022 10:45

My wardrobe technically is a walk in but it's small, all shelf space and alot of floor space is just presents currently. i look forward to Christmas to get my wardrobe back. We have a crawl spce where the tree used to be kept but mice seemed to have nibbled the bag for it so it's in the spare room with the decorations currently.

MarmiteCoriander · 10/11/2022 10:46

We are renovating, but in my previous flat I had things in various places. Christmassy kitchen items (serviettes, platters, tablecloths) in a crate in the spare room cupboard

Decorations and lights in another crate

Wrapping paper/gift bags in another

Our renovation is a much larger house, so hopefully I will have space to keep everything together.

I too would call it a cupboard (never realised that normally refers to just a food cupboard!' Another option would be to call it your 'Christmas storage area'.

OrigamiOwls · 10/11/2022 10:50

I'd say it's a Christmas cupboard. For me a wardrobe is exclusively in the bedroom and for storing clothes.

Phos · 10/11/2022 10:57

My Christmas stuff goes in boxes in the loft between early Jan and late November. It's fine there, I don't need to see it in between.

Ihavedogs · 10/11/2022 11:27

We reuse decorations. I may add some new baubles in a different colour once in a while, but still use the rest of the decorations with them. Older colours will come out again at some point in the future. I still use baubles I have had since we moved here over 35 years ago.

StarboysMum · 10/11/2022 11:32

Cupboard: for non-clothing items, as originally derived from cup-board (a board for storing cups)

Wardrobe: a place for warding(=keeping) your robes.

I like the alliteration of Christmas cupboard so i think that's the best phrase regardless.

StarboysMum · 10/11/2022 11:34

FWIW we just have Christmas boxes. Old brown cardboard packing boxes not worthy of a photo! However we do have a lovely old wardrobe in the spare bedroom that would be perfect for such storage (if only DH would move his clothes out of it!).

Vinylloving · 10/11/2022 11:37

We have a Christmas black bin bag 😂sounds awful doesn't it, somewhere along the line all the decorations were put in a bag and under the stairs and there they have stayed

Vinylloving · 10/11/2022 11:38

The Christmas Cupboard sounds like a lovely cozy film

ChristmasCwtch · 10/11/2022 12:08

I have lots of walk in cupboards and storage rooms, but don’t use any of them for Christmas. It’s the kind of stuff that gets stored away for 10.5 months of the year.

I do have a big walk in cupboard full of toilet rolls and bleach and that makes me happy 😂 I don’t think looking at my baubles and wrapping paper in March would have the same effect lol.

AutisticLegoLover · 10/11/2022 13:13

Well I now know what to do with dd's wardrobe that is no longer used since she moved out. I was planning on using it for hiding presents but now it's going to become the Christmas Cupboard. Thanks OP.

MintJulia · 10/11/2022 13:17

I have two large plastic boxes with lids that live in the loft most of the year. They contain lights, decorations, wrapping paper, ribbon, candles etc.

I don't want a Xmas cupboard, I'd like an elf to bring them down from the loft for me, and then put them back afterwards 😊

IWishItCouldBeChristmasEveryday · 10/11/2022 13:24

Hopefully the photo uploads properly. This is my Christmas wardrobe. Not everything is in there though. The trees and more decorations are on top of the wardrobe and I've actually got quite a few bits out already. Mostly just the baubles and presents in there at the moment.
