Did anyone else plan on cutting back this year but failed?

I have. Again.
Every year I set a budget and use a Christmas gift app to track ideas and spending and what's left to buy. Every year I start buying early usually months before I do the app thing. Then I forget what I've bought until I'm already over budget by the time I update the app. Every single time. I'm a lost cause. Part of me thinks now that it's been a crap year for our family in many ways and why not buy things that I know will be used. I haven't bought anything for the sake of it and no tat. It's mainly books, Lego, pyjamas, those fleece blanket hoodie things, make up and perfume that I know they like, a watch for ds, chocolates for my lovely mum that are her favourites along with her favourite liqueur that she only drinks at Christmas, good quality drawing pencils and sketch paper and a few favourite sweets for the dcs. Oh and a small Squishmallow each. I have cut back on the amount of chocolate I get them because they've still not eaten last years! Two dcs have a birthday near Christmas and even putting things in to those lists they've got too much. Maybe next year I'll start buying on Black Friday and see how I go. I can see that will make me anxious though. I need help! Anyone else wants to join overbuyers anonymous? No judgement here.

I'm self employed too - no office - OP doesn't say anything about SEN. Maybe stop reading anything and everything into every post.
God this place pisses me off. It's worse than twitter under Elon.

Maybe you should stop reading anything and everything into people's posts. You decided organised people obviously must be SAHMs.

OP didnt have to say anything SEN that MY situation as a SAHM, Im allowed to find your ignorant comment about my life situation rude too... I mean if you want to play that game of reading into stuff where did OP or anyone bar you bring up being a SAHM?

Litrally not one person said they where a SAHM yet you jumped stright too 'I guess it's easier if you're a SAHM' which is a massively offensive assumption that everyone here is just sat on their arse revelling in personal time while your just so hard working.

Our examples where to prove the ignorance of that statement that its 'easier' (2 of my kids are in school, that changes nothing if anything it just adds in more awkward chores like the school run which I have to fit around other responsabilities).

Also saying OP doesnt mention it so im 'reading into it' OPs screen name litrally says 'AutisticLegoLover' and AFTER you stated it was 'easy' for SAHM (which you didnt even know if any of us where) OP DID instantly respond that she has 2 additional needs children.

No one should have to say anything about their situation but you decided to make comments based on preconceptions. My username might have given you a clue though 🙄 why people come onto a thread that has no relevance to them never fails to baffle me.

Anyway, let's ignore the derail.

I've seen a new ornament in the collection I, well, collect, and really want to get it. That's for me though so perhaps shouldn't be included in the failing to cut back.

I can't wait to get everything out and look at what I've bought. I need a visual not just a list.

My mum has told me to only buy her one present. Silly mummy. I'd already got a few by the time she said that. None of which are her main present either. I get away with things by making things from each of the grandchildren.

Nobody is going to believe me but I was honestly musing on why I was failing so badly and not making any assumptions about anyone else but about how I would spend my own time differently if I could.
However everyone on this thread is obsessed with finding everything personal and offensive and can't be convinced it wasn't intended in that way. I'll be off.

I have but only really on stocking fillers and only a couple of things per child so not too bad. Oh and I got some expensive alternatives to crackers which were a complete impulse buy and probably unnecessary
