Christmas decorations up early

misssunshine4040 · 08/11/2022 16:40

I usually put my decorations up in the last week of December.
This year I'm so busy with work, we have had a bereavement in the family and my little is asking for them to go up now as the shops are full of Xmas stuff and all the street lights are on.

I absolutely love having the decorations up and don't mind one bit and would be nice to cheer him up but I think my neighbours would think I was crazy putting them up so early !

Like someone else suggested, do it incrementally so build up to the tree going up.

Otherwise it's still a long way to Christmas

@misssunshine4040

Who cares what the neighbours think???

the only times I'd think about the neighbours would be if I was putting up noisy or bright OUTSIDE decorations!

lots of people have them up now, put them up when it suits YOU!!

It's your life, who cares what anyone thinks. I decorated a room in October to cheer my elderly mother up on her birthday. Mine are all up now and I absolutely love it. Who cares about convention? Just do you!

Love this! It's gone up 🎄 and I'm glad I've done it it's made us all happy and spread a bit of well needed cheer

I've had mine up since 1st November. Xmas Grin I love Christmas and think about it all year. Bargains for next Christmas in the January sales, the Christmas press shows showcasing what shops have to offer this year in June/July, etc, Christmas movie channel starting in September, I love it and never get bored of it!
If you want your decorations up early then go for it! It's not hurting anyone and in fact will bring a bit of cheer. hat's not to love about that? Xmas Smile

TheWurst · 08/11/2022 19:22

@Openmouthinsertfood - where is this Christmas movie channel you speak of?!

scrivette · 08/11/2022 19:24

I have started to put up the few new ones I have bought and the Christmas Lego is down from the loft and is starting to be built.

I wouldn't think you are mad (and if you are my neighbours go for it!)

I think before Remembrance Sunday is wrong.

Before Advent Sunday always strikes me as premature - not least because I think up for 6 weeks (from then until Twelfth Night) is more than plenty.

But, each to their own. You could go the whole shebang and keep them up year-round?

kitcat15 · 08/11/2022 19:42

I arrived home at 3.30 today to see my new neighbours tree in the window all lit up and decorated 🎄😀….. doesn’t bother me….my DC will be thrilled to see it when they all come to tea tomorrow! ….mine will go up 4th Decemebr

gillybean89 · 08/11/2022 20:02

Too early for me but I say do what makes you happy and don't worry about the neighbours!

LuckyLuckyWoman · 08/11/2022 20:03

There is a house local to me that has their tree up since last Christmas. Turn the lights on every night 😮

Sky channel 319, Great movies Xmas. There is another Xmas movie channel on there too now. When I pop the telly on later will note it down and let you know. Xmas Smile

TheWurst · 08/11/2022 20:15

@Openmouthinsertfood ah damn we don’t have sky, thanks though. 🎄

Openmouthinsertfood · 08/11/2022 20:18

Just Googled and it says it's on Freeview channel 51, hope that helps! Xmas Smile

Far too early (and quite disrespectful before Remembrance Sunday imo)

Confused I mean... I hate early Christmas decorations, because dragging it on for weeks and weeks makes it less special. But I can't see how on earth is it 'disrespectful'. Do baubles sone how stop you from remembering those who died in wars?

Because I believe that there is a season for everything (Ecclesiastes 3) and November is not Christmas and not the season for Christmas decorations. She has put them up now so moot point.

Inasec24 · 08/11/2022 20:46

Why not? Go for it! There really isn't one correct day to put them up.

I think the same to be honest. I usually put mine up 1st December, I'd be totally sick of them come Christmas if I put them up now, the end of November isn't so bad I suppose.

ethelredonagoodday · 08/11/2022 21:30

First weekend in Dec for us. DD's birthday is in Dec and she likes the tree to be up then. We keep them up til 12th night though, I love having them up.

Doowop1919 · 09/11/2022 13:59

We always do the first weekend in December but I'd like to change it to the "first Advent" weekend as I live in Germany and that's celebrated here. So last weekend of November will be our new weekend for putting up the tree and decorations.

Ihavedogs · 09/11/2022 14:11

Nothing for me until after remembrance Sunday. After then a christmas candle or oils will be used. The wreath will go up around 1st December, but the real tree not until mid December at the earliest.

As much as I love Christmas November is too early for decorations for me. But I keep them up until as close to 12th night as possible. Although that depends on how the pot grown tree is getting on.

I dare say I would have a few mutters if I saw decorations up this early, but at the same time it is none of my business.

Stompythedinosaur · 10/11/2022 02:03

It doesn't hurt anyone for you to do this, sonid do what makes you happy!

JestersTear · 10/11/2022 02:17

December double figures for us, usually, and then down on the 5th Jan.
I do grumble about people putting theirs up 'too early', our neighbour has theirs up already but it's not hurting anyone and it's none of my business. Our family used to decorate on the 24th Dec when I was growing up.

34and3 · 10/11/2022 05:34

Always 1st December including the outside lights too.

jamespipe · 10/11/2022 06:11

Although it is too early, but you can do it incrementally. What are you planning for Christmas decorations this year?

Coffeaddict · 10/11/2022 06:16

Mine are going up this week. I'm booked in for a csection next week and can't see myself having the time or energy to do it after.
