Pokemon???

I am sooo out of touch! I asked my friend what my godson (7) might like for Xmas and she said 'something to do with Pokemon' because his friends are keen on it and he has been talking about it recently.

Pokemon came out when i was at primary school and I had zero interest in it and I know even less about it now! How do kids play Pokemon these days? Would he want cards or toys/merchandise? Any help is greatfully received!

The trading card game is having a resurgence and plushies go down well.

Definitely plushies! My boys love Pokémon, they just want the teddies.

My son loves Pokémon too! It's funny how they come back around! You can get almost anything Pokémon related nowadays, Amazon is a good place to look - cards, pjs, encyclopaedia, how to draw Pokémon, hoodies, art sets, books, poke ball sets. They play with trading cards mainly.

M&S have some great Pokemon pyjamas at the moment.

I’d get him this

My dc and their friends pored over earlier editions for hours. Hugely popular and will give him all the info to fit in if he’s picking it up off his mates.

You can get poke balls with the Pokémon for them for just over a tenner

My son loves them too. He really like the pokebsalls, plushies, cards etc but the clothes too, onesies, t shirts etc. Stick a pokémon on it and it becomes brilliant.

Thank you for being so helpful everyone - I had no idea where to start and now I've got loads of ideas! Thanks again :)

Agree with @Whatsleftnow re the book. My 8yo spends hours looking at that thing! Also the electronic Guess the Pokémon Game, that looks like a pokeball, was a surprise hit last year. And plushies. All the plushies lol Favourites here are the starter Pokémon (Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle), Eevee & all it's evolutions, Mewtwo. He isn't interested in clothes etc so much but collects the cards too.
We also bought him a couple of bundles of mini figures from eBay a few years ago so he has lots to battle with.
The rucksack & volcano playsets are nice but depends how much you want to spend and you really need some extra figures to go with them. The pokeball belt is fun if he likes to act it out and you can buy extra pokeballs to go on it.

DS is the biggest Pokémon fan!

I would second the handbook or encyclopaedia, check the publish dates to make sure you're getting the most up to date one.

Battle academy game is good too as it shows them how to play it. £22 on Amazon
