Miniature Christmas village

Anyone do one of these? I’d like to, but I’m a bit stuck on where to start. I’d like one I can add to. Also I think Lemax is a bit big scale-wise and astonishingly expensive. I’d love Lilliput lane, but really want to have lit up.

Does that exist?

I have a lilliput village! Some of them light up with batteries (I think they can be rigged up to mains as they have electric ports with a transformer but I’m not sure how to do that) about 6 of mine light up and the other 10-12 don’t. I don’t actually put batteries in them because they are on display in an unheated area and it drains the batteries too quickly. Instead I’ve brought a sheet of fake snow fluff and I run twinkly fairy lights under the “snow layer” and place the village on top. It looks really pretty all lit up.

I love the lemax but I agree it’s pretty huge! The best place to get lilliputs is from eBay, and it took me a few years to build my collection (search lilliput Christmas, snow, winter, illuminated etc) Some of them only cost a few pounds, but it’s best to buy between February and late summer as they don’t sell for as much then. I haven’t added to it for a few years but it still comes out every year! It reminds me of when my girls were little 😊

We got one but it squeaks as it moves, so we don’t use it.

Christmas village

We have about 6 or 7 of these little wooden houses - not expensive and very pretty.

Oh those are cute! I think I want something I add to over the years though.

Yeah I’m thinking maybe it doesn’t matter if they light up or not, I could add lights outside them. There are lots on eBay aren’t there. I might be going for it I think.

thanks!

Have fun! I had 3 houses the first year and build it up over about 4 years. You could always have a look at the lemax landscaping stuff like the trees and hedges and pathways which work fine with the liliput sizes.

Has anyone got any pictures of theirs set up they wouldn't mind sharing. Love the idea of these and would love some inspiration!

Oh do they, excellent. Thanks!

I am quite excited about trees and will add some lights somehow. Yey!

I found one seller on eBay selling a lot of Lilliput lane houses and put offers on all the snowy ones which they accepted! So I’m on my way 😊

I bought a couple of Christmas village sets in Homebase but that was at least 10 years ago and I haven't seen them since unfortunately. They were somewhat reduced in price so I suspect were an end of line product, which is a shame as they are pretty quality imo

valbyruta · 06/11/2022 16:58
  • pretty good quality

I’ve been buying a new house every year but have had to slow down cos I’ve limited space. I display mine on top of the piano so it’s not a huge area. Last year i bought a second hand small corner shelving unit & decorated it so have that too now. I’m also trying to add little people & trees etc since they take less space than the houses.
@mmmmmchocolate I love the idea of the lights under the snow blanket! I’ll be doing that this year. So thanks for that!
