Ds age 15 wants a pc or laptop. It's primarily for gaming although he will be doing schoolwork from next year on a computer. I'm clueless! What kind of spec should I be looking for? He doesn't want a gaming PC for some reason. Any advice about what kind of things it would need to include would be fantastic.

I guess it depends on what "gaming" means. Basics such as Minecraft or really demanding PC gaming such as these ones The 18 Most Graphically Demanding PC Games

Once you know what type of games he is likely to be playing you can look at the specs needed for them.

Thank you, I didn't even know that. That helps. I'll ask him and go from there.

Go with the biggest numbers you can afford. As a minimum 8gb ram, i5 processor and 500gb hard drive. Ideally 16gb/i7/1tb. They're not cheap.

Definitely depends on the type of games. I bought my Lenovo laptop in 2016 and wanted it to be capable of playing the Sims 4. It cost me £700 at the time, which I thought was quite reasonable and is still going strong now
