Help finding Thomas Tank

Russell19 · 22/10/2022 13:21

Hi all,

After expert mum advice regarding my little boys Christmas wish list. He already has a brio train track and wants Thomas the tank trains to go onto his existing track.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions please?

Has anyone got this already and knows a particular Thomas track fits?

Thanks in advance!

Thomas Wooden Railway fits Brio wooden track so any of the trains that run on the wooden track will work. We have boxes full of the things 🙈
TrackMasters, Take & Plays and Adventures won't fit the wooden track. Wooden ones don't seem to be as popular any more, with TrackMaster having so many big sets now, I think they have been discontinued. Secondhand might be a good option if you struggle to find them new. I've had quite a few from charity shops.

I got loads of second hand Thomas Brio trains on EBay - Gordon, Diesel, Duck, the lot.

It's really hard to find new Thomas the Tank engine for the wooden train track - I was told in one shop that they were discontinuing it (not sure if that's true as my DS has moved on now!) But eBay is your friend for second hand, some sellers do 3 for 2.

The metal trackmaster ones fit on the wooden track

Ebay has been where we got our brio compatible Thomas/Gordon/Percy etc and not too expensive either.

Russell19 · 22/10/2022 21:51

Thanks everyone. I was hoping to find new because it's for a grandparent to buy for him. I'll look for the trackmaster ones.

There is an online shop called Thomas the Tank Shop which seems to have a good range of the wooden ones that fit standard wooden railways. I bought several from another online shop when DD was in that phase. The other place I found them to buy in person was our nearest steam railway where we go on the Santa train each year.

This is a good website for Thomas bits:

We got loads off eBay. Not brio but fit fine. We got about 7 different trains from Thomas.

You want the Thomas wooden railway range. It’s tricky to find but they are lovely.

ElBandito · 23/10/2022 00:32

If you want a proper new boxed set I would go for brio and then buy some of the Thomas character engines separately on eBay. You might also be able to pick up some of the more iconic Thomas locations on eBay. Search for Tidmouth, Knapford etc. We had a mix of brio, Sainsburys, ELC and Thomas and they were all compatible.
They've always mucked about with the different versions of trackmaster and take and play but you can get adaptors to join older sets to the new ones.

BiasedBinding · 23/10/2022 00:45

agree with others re ebay for the brio compatible ones

one thing I would say is that while it’s worth having some that fit the brio track properly, my children also enjoy playing with the other versions and it doesn’t bother them that they don’t roll properly along the track. I got a cheap bundle that had a mixture of wooden brio and metal TTT trains and they play with them all equally. I realise though that if these are grandparent presents you are looking for a “nicer” and more specific set of trains

TheSausageKingofChicago · 23/10/2022 00:48

The wooden Thomas railway is lovely and fits with Brio. I’ve got boxes of the stuff under my bed that I’m keeping for the grandchildren. DS played and played with it. It was a bit pricey but worth every penny.

TheSausageKingofChicago · 23/10/2022 00:52

This site has loads to choose from. It’s a lovely gift from grandparents - they’ll enjoy buying it.

@Russell19 Thomas expert here! What you need is Thomas Push Along! They fit any track. Also.there are adapters that have Thomas wooden railway connection on one side and Brio on the other! There are also adapters to connect Brio to Trackmaster trains (they are the ones you put batteries in and they move)

MightyOaks · 23/10/2022 01:43
  • connect Brio to Trackmaster train sets I meant! In case you want to add to the Brio track at any point in the future.

But right now, go to Smyths toys website and type in 'Thomas Push Along' 🚂

Russell19 · 23/10/2022 08:18

Thank you everyone! The things we do for Christmas 🤣

@MightyOaks do you mean this one?

It would be great if so as there's lots of options!
