Hoping to get x2 laptops for Christmas. One for 12 yr old and 10 yr old (dyslexic so might be for in school use eventually). For school work, general use and very small amount of gaming (roblox). Im clueless on what i need to be looking for. Budget max £500 each

That's a huge budget. A decent laptop is about £350, Toshiba is my favourite brand, reliable and not prone to breaking. Avoid Acer in my view.

I would get them a small laptop which could be as little as £100.

The main thing you want to do is ensure they are not going on random websites because this is where viruses come from.

I got my 16 DS a chrome book and he loves it. It links straight to his google drive , google classroom etc and he’s always on it. I got the touch screen and he loves the function of the laptop but also the functionality of a tablet.

Get a proper laptop. Asus are worth looking at. I'd go close to the £500 so it works. If it will be used for gaming, you need a decent graphics card.

So it lasts, not 'works'!

HP Pavilion
Curry's had some great offers.
I've had: Sony, Toshiba, Asus but the HP is by far and away the best.

I got mine from here - www.cclonline.com

It was cheaper than high street & they’ve always given a good service.

Ds's last laptop was an ASUS and lasted well through school. We've just updated him to a DELL for uni(engineering), great laptop but shocking customer service. dh is now using his ASUS. We use Lenovo laptops at work and they are another very good make.

you might be able to get a free outlook365 licence from school. I dont know much about chrome books but think they are less versitile then a windows laptop, check if they can support all the software they might want to use.

Agree about HP Pavilion.

Toshibas terrible for overheating.
