Hello, what boardgames do you recommend for just two players???? Thanks

Scrabble, boggle, Yahtzee are favourites here for two

PurpleParrotfish · 17/10/2022 07:29

PS the game is Race for the Galaxy and we love it, not some game called ‘Love Race for the Galaxy’. In case of confusion.

ThirstyMeeples · 17/10/2022 07:40

Our favourite is Terraforming Mars. But we also like Wingspan and Great Western Trail.

HideTheCroissants · 17/10/2022 07:50

7 Wonders Duel
Carcassonne
Ticket To Ride
Wingspan
Quacks of Quedlinburg

7 Wonders Duel is two players only. The others can be more but we play them as two player games all the time.

redskyhaze · 17/10/2022 07:50

What kind of games do you like?

Withinthewhirlwind · 17/10/2022 08:09

Wingspan

BlueChampagne · 17/10/2022 12:37

DH and I love big euro worker placement games such as:

A Feast for Odin
Fields of Arle
Caverna
Agricola
At the Gates of Lo Yang
Nusfjord

Some of them can be played with more than 2 players but work well for 2. There are smaller (specifically 2 player) versions of Agricola and Caverna. Have a look at boardgamegeek.com for info.

BlueChampagne · 17/10/2022 12:37

Another vote for Wingspan. Just getting our heads round Great Western Trails.

DinosaurOfFire · 17/10/2022 12:53

Star Realms is fab, as are the Tiny Epic games- most of the Tiny Epic games can be played single player as well.

Withinthewhirlwind · 18/10/2022 19:01

Ooh, thanks for the Great Western Trails suggestion @BlueChampagne - I’ve not heard of it before & it sounds great!

woohoowoohoo · 18/10/2022 19:04

Ticket to ride
Cluedo (can play in a 2 instructions explain )
Labyrinth
221b Baker Street

woohoowoohoo · 18/10/2022 19:08

Just looked up some of these games and my god the prices have gone up of games! £60 for wingspan!

I'm going to put a list on my phone and check out charity shops - we just took exploding kittens to one as we didn't like that one

StarDolphins · 18/10/2022 19:08

My DD & I play…
Dobble
Headbanz
Cluedo
Monopoly
Operation
Sofia Tea Party

Ohuhu · 18/10/2022 19:28

Bananagrams is great if you like wordgames - it's similar to Scrabble, but much more fast-paced
Schotten-Totten is a good game - strategic enough to be fun, but not so strategic as to slow the game down
Monopoly Deal is fun - we had to take some of the wild cards out and do a couple of other tweaks to make it harder, though
A bit old-school, but cribbage is a classic for a reason. It's also fun to hear older relatives unwittingly talking about pegging Grin

Maybe we were missing something, but we didn't rate Hive - found the games got very samey quite quickly.

emmathedilemma · 18/10/2022 19:35

Scrabble
othello

HideTheCroissants · 19/10/2022 13:24

Maybe we were missing something, but we didn't rate Hive - found the games got very samey quite quickly.

Totally agree. That one went off to the charity shop very quickly.

Just looked up some of these games and my god the prices have gone up of games! £60 for wingspan!

I agree that they seem expensive but the quality of the components is very high. We’re not talking flimsy boards and plastic dice.

We watch “Watch It Played” on YouTube to get an idea of whether a game will suit us or not. Currently considering Photosynthesis….

BlueChampagne · 19/10/2022 14:28

Agree the big games are expensive (keep an eye on Zatu Games). However, if you think about how many times you might play it, and the cost of a night out, then it helps.

I gather Wingspan was designed by an all-female team.

woohoowoohoo · 19/10/2022 17:59

There's a games cafe near us so I'm going to compile a list and try a few out first !

Thisisthelifewevebeengiven · 19/10/2022 21:16

Depends on the age of the recipient but I went down the route of some good 2 player games for my sons a few years ago (now aged 12 and 9) and the ones they enjoy that I don't see mentioned above are,

Rubiks race
Tetris duel
Top trumps match board
Who dunnit

DietCokeExtraIce · 19/10/2022 21:26

Ingenious - 2-4 but better with 2 IMO.. very tactical!

millerpie · 20/10/2022 00:38

Sandwich Masters

RaininginDarling · 20/10/2022 00:49

Another vote for Carcassonne - we love it.
Bananagrams
Exploding Kittens (especially the box set which offers a variety of games for 2 or more players)
And, our favourite, Cartagena, the pirate game, which is hard to source in the UK but worth getting.

barms90 · 20/10/2022 08:21

Thanks everyone!!! My son is 11 and we have a lot of games ticket to ride, carcassonne, dixit, splendor (I love he hates) of the top of my head....but I'm just after some that are expic for two players as we are the only two that play!

If anyone is looking for a good multiplayer game he loves scotland yard-I hate it :)

Some I haven't seen mentioned above;
Dice Throne
Caper
Hanabi (cooperative)

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 20/10/2022 08:43

Oh and Similo (also a cooperative card game)
