Afternoon,

I'm thinking about gifts for my 9 year old DS, and wondering about a magazine subscription for him. Any recommendations? I've so far seen The Week Junior, which I think he'd like. Any others? He's into science, technology, history, geography, all sorts really. So looking for something quite general. All ideas welcome.

Thank you.

Probably not helpful as you’ve already thought of it!- but my DS is 10 & has been getting the week junior for a few years.
My 6yo DD has now started reading bits of it too.

Mine had Aquila, which sounds perfect for what you want.

Is whizz pop bang still a thing? Science magazine x

DD had Aquila for a while and now gets National Geographic Kids which she likes.

DS has the week junior - science and nature monthly edition which is really good. You can buy this in the shops usually so you could get a copy to try out!

Not science but will post it for the benefit of others anyway.

My son is really into Dogman and Bunny v Monkey books.

Bunny v Monkey comes originally from a comic:
thephoenixcomic.co.uk/

The parent company is a book publisher and they are using it to help promote reading especially for reluctant readers or readers with dsylexia.

A number of books that have been spin off from the comic have been recommended by the Booktrust.

I’m getting dd (9 at xmas) the Operation Ouch magazine subscription, she’s bought it herself a few times and loves it.

DS9 gets this in subscription too and loves it. Real mix of science (biology, physics, chemistry, paleontology, astronomy...)

My 9 yr old likes The Week Jr and Nat Geo magazines. She didn’t take to Aquila.

There seem to be loads! I agree the Week Jr Science & Nature sounds good.

DS8 gets factology magazine which has a different theme every issue, and the beano.

Also looking at operation ouch on the recommendation above as I didn’t know they did one and he loves the tv show.

Thanks, I'll have a look into the ones I've not heard of later. I'm sure I'll find something suitable.
