Help me sift through dds wishes

It’s early and I know Christmas wishes can change but trying to snap early bargains if I see them.
DD also has a Christmas birthday so tends to get a lot at this time of year and I try to get stuff that will cover the full year.
DD has a mountain of toys and lots of relatives who like to buy for her.
I’m really trying to keep it down this year and have booked for us to go away for actual Christmas thinking it would limit gifts. She’s also having a birthday party instead of presents this year (her friends will all bring gifts and the party wasn’t cheap)

DD already keeps mentioning all the things she likes, inspired by stuff her friends have or things we see in the supermarket/adverts. I always tell her that she can put it on a wish list instead of buying in the moment, and that Santa will look at the list for ideas at Christmas.

meanwhile, there are things we would like to get her but she’s not asked for - educational toys basically

Shes definitely not getting everything. Financial and space reasons. If you have a 5 year old dd, which of these actually got used/played with and which were fads?

Dd wish:
Kids tablet
Barbie camper van
Various Barbies (colour reveal, camping Barbie, etc.)
A Polly pocket bag with Polly pockets inside
A wooden dolls house with dolls
Spirit playmobil house
Crayola Washimals
Bath slime
A telescope (useless as we live in city center there are no stars)
Lol dolls (I draw the line here, she’s had one and it was cast aside after the opening excitement wore off)

Our ideas:
An interactive globe
A microscope
Books
Art supplies
Tonies figures

Stocking fillers I’ve already picked up:

  • [ ] Chef hat for dress up box
  • [ ] Glitter shaker
  • [ ] Bath bombs & bath wand
  • [ ] Insect catcher magnifying glass
  • [ ] Street chalk (massive size)
  • [ ] Shower gel shaped like Lol doll
  • [ ] Toy money for her shop

thanks for your tips!

My 5yo DD would absolutely love and play with your DDs wish list.

Kids tablet - my dd has an Amazon fire tablet, plays lots of games on it. Every year I load the PNP Santa app for my DDs on their tablets, they love it.

Barbie camper van - not got this but would love it. She has other barbie stuff, cars, dolls, playsets. She is getting the Malibu dreamhouse playset for Xmas.

Various Barbies (colour reveal, camping Barbie, etc.) - got these, has asked for a Chelsea reveal for Xmas as she got 2 barbie reveals for her birthday and other barbies that are hers or her sisters.

A Polly pocket bag with Polly pockets inside - we have lots of polly pockets, always get played with. Some are hand me downs from older sisters.

A wooden dolls house with dolls - we have one but it got packed away last Christmas for space and we never set it up again, dd would be happy if we did though.

Spirit playmobil house - I don’t know if my dd would play with this but she has asked for the barbie lego house.

Crayola Washimals - would love

Bath slime - would love

A telescope - could get a cheap play one or replace with binoculars, my dd loves hers.

Lol dolls - we’ve got lots as my older DDs loved them though they aren’t played with as much as barbie by my 5yo.

Your list sounds more for you than your DD and some stuff definitely more for when she’s older.

Personally id either choose camper van or house, certainly not both. If you didn’t want the cost of the barbie campervan the Chelsea playsets are good, my dd has a few. I think she likes Chelsea more as she’s the youngest girl in the house so relates to her. Crayons and slime are big hits at any age in our house.

Years ago my older DDs got fake barbie campers from Wilkos off a relative, they had no idea they weren’t really barbie, a fraction of the price. The other day in B&M I saw an areoplane playset that could pass as a barbie playset. I didn’t look at the price but I suspect cheaper than barbie prices.

With the Polly pockets - do you find the little bits get flung around the house and lost or does your dd tend to take good care of them because they have a little case?

We’ve got a dedicated poly pocket container, it’s one of the very few toys to ever be kept tidied away. I’m also always amazed that if a doll goes missing my 5yo can find it even if everything in the house is a mess.

@Yellowcanary22 OP if your worried about messy bath slime you could opt for fluffy slime. I get them little pots from the party favour sections in Asda and Tesco’s and put them in their stockings. They are only getting one small fluffy pot each this year though as we have a puppy that likes to get into everything. The DCs got glitter slime and glue in her the first week we got her so now know slime it’s banned until the pups a lot older. They won’t be expecting the slime but I know it will be a big hit even if it’s just a small pot.

If your ruling out bath slime for the difficulty of getting her out the bath what about getting some to use as sensory play in a water tray or even in a paddling pool

I have a 5 year old. Barbies are a huge hit here, played with most days. Has she asked for the camper van? If so just be aware there are a few different versions so she might want a specific one - my daughter wants the one with the slide she would be disappointed with the other one (although she's going to be disappointed anyway because I'm not getting her the slide one - costs a bloody fortune!).

She's well and truly over the dolls house, we moved that into the little ones room a year ago. We have got her a barbie sized house this year though (off marketplace - bargain!). Polly Pockets she does enjoy playing with every so often.

I'd try and encourage a love of bath bombs instead of anything resembling bath slime/jelly myself 😂 home bargains do ones with lights inside which always go down well here.

My five year old loves the barbie ambulance. The colour reveal ones are a bit rubbish I thought for the money. Tonies are well loved in this house!

Also as PP said the chelsea camper van is well loved here and a lot smaller

Crayola Washimals and bath slime would both be no from me. Dolls house, Barbie stuff and playmobil yes.
