DS is just about to turn 2. Hugely into building toys at the moment - wooden blocks, Megablocks, jigsaws anything that he can build really! Also really likes cars/trains etc.

I think he’s at a decent age to start a nice train set. Is Brio worth the bit extra money? 😊

Have also seen MagnaTiles which I think would be right up his street? 🤔 Are the branded ones considerably better? There seems to be some other bigger sets on Amazon.

Any other toys that yours loved at this age and have been well used?

My just turned 2yo loves:

Duplo
Stickle bricks
Magnetic Shapes tiles
Wooden train set from Smyth's www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/toys/wooden-toys-and-puzzles/wooden-train-sets/squirrel-play-80-piece-wooden-train-set/p/176567
Anything stackable

Sorry, just getting back to this thread. Thanks for all the recommendations everyone 😊 Have got a few bits on their way for him.

@Mardyface Oh, I know 😅 I’ve just had a massive toy clear out as he had far too much and he’s outgrown a lot of things! Definitely won’t be going overboard - I can only imagine how much stuff there will be over the next few years 😬🙈 Much prefer to get more open ended toys that he will play with for a good few years 😊

i would go for Aldi train sets and the ikea ones
they're compatible with brio but much cheaper and ours are amazing quality and ideas
we adore our magnatiles and I highly recommend getting the brand ones if you have the money and look at the animal packs they're such a good way to encourage imagination
and you can get these delightful block sets that look like fairytale castles and stuff
