Would fingerprinting the cat be too weird?

Our lovely NDNs have a cat that often comes over to our house and makes himself at home if they're out. He's a keen hunter cat who brings them lots of presents of dead mice, birds and the occasional rat. They're vegans and we've joked about him bringing home mushrooms instead.

Would it be too weird to put a muddy pawprint from the cat in a Christmas card and leave it on their doorstep on Christmas day with some fancy gift-wrapped mushrooms? I think it would be funny.

One cat! I'm trying to get him to stand in the mud.

The mud didn't leave a print at all so I used a bit of red poster paint. He's so fluffy that I didn't get a proper 'paw' shaped print. I gave his paw a wash afterwards and he was quite relaxed about the whole thing so I'll order a mess-free ink pad.

I absolutely love this. When I first read the title I thought it was going to be fingerprinting to solve a mystery (eg which cat shat in my shoes) but this is far more heartwarming.

Salt dough would provide you with a pawprint! You just make some and hold the cats paw onto it and then bake ! We did it with our cat and painted it for a decoration

DayOfTheTentacle · 10/10/2022 18:34

Well that would tickle me right in the funny furry? bone! 🐾🐈

EverydayIsPJday · 10/10/2022 18:36

Aw lovely idea 😍

ILoveToads · 10/10/2022 18:47

I love this, I would find this so funny 😆

eurochick · 10/10/2022 18:51

Air dry clay would work I think.

berksandbeyond · 10/10/2022 19:02

Oh I love this! Great idea

I love this!

(I tried myself to send a muddy pawprint on a postcard from a dog and it was surprisingly difficult to get a visible print, so I highly respect your efforts)

PolkaDotMankini · 10/10/2022 19:45

I've ordered a mess-free ink pad (thanks for the suggestion @Lellochip). If that doesn't work then I'll organise an imprint of some sort. I really want him to sign the card though!

I may have just put my cat at risk of identity fraud

🤣🤣🤣🤣

TrainspottingWelsh · 10/10/2022 21:23

Lovely idea. We used to get the pets to sign dc’s cards, and I can say from experience hoof prints are easier than cat paw prints.

The most fool proof method is to put clean, ironed delicate white clothing within 20’ of wherever the cat enters. You can absolutely guarantee that even on the driest day you’ll get a full covering of muddy prints.

Fabulous idea, i will check my doorstep Christmas day to see if the fluffy cat who has spent most of the summer sunning himself in my garden has left me a card and some chocolate. He has now discovered how to creep upstairs and stretch out on the bed on the spare room bed 😽

PolkaDotMankini · 11/10/2022 10:37

I hope you get your chocolate, even if it isn't from your fluffy one!

My friend posted this today, which felt appropriate for this scheme. DH took me painting next door's cat in his stride, amazing man that he is.

Just leave something expensive like a laptop on your desk and voila CatPawPrint Grin

I'm sure your NDNs would love some Christmas mushrooms from their cat Grin

Our male cat wants reassurance that you remove the cat before baking (he isn't he sharpest knife in the drawer though) Xmas Wink

PolkaDotMankini · 12/10/2022 18:31

The ink pad has arrived. Maybe I'll leave it on top of my laptop for optimal performance.

Just saw this and thought of you @PolkaDotMankini

🙂

Prettypennies · 15/10/2022 15:15

Aw amazing! You could also give vegan mushroom sweets with the card ☺️

PolkaDotMankini · 17/10/2022 15:54

Success! One paw print using the mess-free ink pad, although the fur makes it look as though he has webbed feet.

Yeah well done OP, I am sure your neighbours will both appreciate, and think it’s funny to receive card & present from their cat!

PolkaDotMankini · 18/10/2022 16:36

I hope so. My Christmas cards arrived today so I've written it up (with apologies to Shrek) and laminated the paw print as a little decoration. The grocery delivery slots open tomorrow so I'll add mushrooms so I don't forget!

Brilliant! 😹

Wish I had thought of doing an imprint instead of rather unsuccessful paw prints when I was doing them from my daughter's cat and dog on her wedding card
