If he's not keen on Xmas then ffs don't start doing mega Xmas stuff for him as he won't reciprocate, will never show enough appreciation of your thoughts and efforts, you'll start to resent him, he'll say but you know I don't like Xmas ... and so it goes. Listen to him. Couple of gifts and that'll do nicely.

Agree with this!
Don’t spend precious hours of your life working towards to a perfect stocking if you’re going to be disappointed if he’s not thrilled by it.

mam0918 · 07/10/2022 09:48

Fly lures
A camping mug
An xbox game
Controller skin
Blue tinted gaming glasses
Friers chocolate fishing kit
Chocolate orange

I would NOT do socks and boxers and stuff, if he doesnt enjoy christmas hes certainly not going to enjoy dull uninspired generic gifts he doesnt want - get him thing that actually apply to his tastes and interests.

This.

You're setting yourself up to be back here on Christmas morning posting how you got him stocking, a XBox games and fishing paraphanalia and he either got you nothing, something cheap from the garage or something wildly expensive that you can't afford and isn't to your taste anyway.

Unless you're far more well off than the average 20 YOs there will be loads of better uses for your money than things you don't really want or need, so why not agree to get each other a couple of token consumable presents (nice spirit or other alcohol, food treats or a meal out) and spend your own money on your own things when you want them, or save some for the future. You can show love for each other and enjoy Christmas without a great tat exchange.

How is anything I suggested tat? people throw that word around too much but a few things specifically curated to his interest he is not going to hate.

A stocking is hardly a crazy OTT thing to do either, its pretty much the bare minimum one step above doing sweet fuck all and why should OP forego christmas? misery may love company but it doesnt give it the right to drag anyone down and shit all over the holidays.

If OP comes on to complaining her partner didn't bother thats a legit complaint regardless of if he 'like' xmas, his 'likes' dont give him a free pass to be a selfish arsehole to his partner and OP doesnt have to accept bad behavior and lack of care/trying.

Where did people learn that its ok to be so mannerless and graceless?

LovelyChicken · 07/10/2022 10:39

Doing a stocking for a grown man who doesn't like Christmas is nuts

If he wanted those things, he'd have them already. If he has them, he doesn't need any more.

If he doesn't have them, he either doesn't want them, or can't afford them. So would be rather daft of the OP to buy them for him, assuming they're living together so have intertwined money, to a degree, even if they don't fully share finances.

And since when has presents equalled Christmas for adults? They're not five years old. if they can't enjoy Christmas without buying a load of stuff for the sake of it, they've got bigger problems than presents.

Why do you think its acceptible to come on a thread asking for harmless suggestions that clearly makes someone else happy and shit all over them.

Go post your angst about the planet elsewhere not the stockings thread.

GettingStuffed · 07/10/2022 18:26

I e bought DH some beer glass shaped pasta from Lidl

Is it good manners to start a fight on every Christmas thread?
