What do you buy your older children (20s) who have jobs and can afford to buy what they want themselves.

We have lists, so they can share what they might like.
but sometimes I just see something and think one of them will like it.

It's easier once they move out, too. There's things they want for their new homes.

My mum switched to one present pretty much as soon as I turned 18. She now lives abroad so we get nothing. My in laws get us a a bottle of spirits and a smelly set or something of similar value.

My mum asks me for a list it often includes a book or 2 I want, some clothes or vouchers towards if it's something I'm fussy about, bath stuff, things for the house. And I always get chocolate coins!

I don’t have older kids but I am one. After probably about sixteen you just get a card with £20 or something in it. Still get birthday presents but Christmas it’s just a card and a note. What we call a “purple een”. If you get a broon een or even a blue een you’ve annoyed someone but if you get a “reed een” then you’re laughing. They done away with “green eens” years ago but I’ve still got one for luck tucked in the family bible if you can figure out what all those are and you’re south of Dundee then I’ll dof my hat to you

Yaaasss. South west? Doonhamer? My husband is originally a Kirkcudbright lad. They use those denominations too. Edinburgh folk tho - mind blown

I give my adult children £100 budget each which they choose themselves a gift or put it towards something larger. They like their stockings for about £60 Marvel socks, PJ's, car cleaning kits, little bits like Star Wars air fresheners for cars, chocolate orange, etc.

@HighlandPony Sunny Ayrshire!! So not as far south as Kircudbright!

HighlandPony · 07/10/2022 00:34

Ah I get you. I’m waaaaay further north and east in the villages. Closest big town is Dingwall. Teuchter country 😁
