Ideas for 18 month old

Ima90sbaby · 02/10/2022 20:08

My DS will be 18 months when Christmas comes, and I'm just trying to think of what to get him.
Some family members have already started to ask me what they could get him and I don't have a clue.
I said I would write a list so that family members and friends can pick something from there...
So any ideas are welcome 😊 (he has just started walking properly too, if this helps lol)

TIA x

Mine is currently 19 months, and current favourite toys are: duplo, wooden train tracks, play kitchen, aquadoodle and a ride on Thomas the tank engine!

We are getting my daughter (14 months) the Ikea wooden kitchen for Christmas and are going to ask other family members for toy food / plates and bowls etc. She'll be a bit young to play properly with it but she loves opening and shutting the doors on her cousins and pretending to drink from the cups.

Hi @17caterpillars1mouse which do you think is better - sticklebricks or Duplo?

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/10/2022 17:44

Definitely Duplo. I have two dds and we got our first Duplo when DD1 was 18 months..she's now 6.5 and we have a huge collection. A brick box that comes with bricks a car and person is a good start along with a set to get you started then people can add as you go. Would definitely recommend getting at least one base plate too as your son gets older, though probably not essential at 18 months but it just helps the build. I think the first set beside the blocks we got was the pony farm.

Dd6 still plays with it alot, she likes building Lego friend sets but for creative building still loves the Duplo. DD nearly 4 loves it too though is more of a build a house and play with the characters and animals type player.

I'm going to keep our collection for any future grandkids as mil has done with DHs old Duplo

You can bulk buy generic bricks from eBay too. I haven't but a friend did to build their collection. Her 7 year old builds some impressive structures from it still

Mine got Duplo for her birthday and hasnt looked at it, non of my kids have really been into that or lego... I guess they dont like building stuff lol.

Lilgamesh2 · 05/10/2022 19:49

@17caterpillars1mouse thank you so much. My DD is 12 months and I want to get her something she can build with. From the sounds of it I should get her Duplo but maybe wait until she's 18months. I can't see anything online for kids her age. Might still be a bit complex for her.

My DS will be 20 months.
MIL asked me what to get him the other day I said a potty (ready for next year when he's ready to start training)
Also one of those piano floor mats he can run across.

I've not got a lot so far but I've got him a wooden toy off Amazon with bits he can hammer and it's got gears and it he can twist.
I've got him the Gruffalo book,
Water doodle books,
Colouring book,
Wooden animal stacking blocks,
Clothes,
Guess how Much I Love you book but it's got a hand puppet in it to tickle I think he'll love that.

I also want to get him a battery operated car (seen BMW/Mercedes ones in Smyths so cute)
Mud kitchen (Aldi)
New slide and swing set for outside
