Gift for DD(10)?

Once again, I'm stuck for ideas for a 'main present' for my DD(10). I know she doesn't necessarily need a main present but my other two DC (aged 14 and 4) will have a main present.

She very arty and creative, loves baking. I've bought her some Posca pens and will do a hamper of 'blanks' for her to go mad with.

I wondered about a sewing machine but she hasn't done much sewing before so it's quite an expensive gamble if it's not for her.

I was quite sold on a Polaroid camera with accessories, but someone lent her one at an event recently and it confirmed my fears that she would get through all the expensive paper like water taking photos of nothing much 😩 A first 'proper' camera might be an option but not poloroid. Any recommendations for a first proper digital camera?

I do have plenty of other ideas for smaller gifts for her but none that really stand out as a 'wow' gift. The only thing she's asked for so far is a baking apron. She has roller blades, bike, scooter etc. Not into gaming or tech really. Has an alexa. An experience gift could be an option.

What is everyone getting their 10yo girls?

Karaoke machine
Keyboard
Ice cream machine
Velvetiser

CoffeeChocolateWine · 29/09/2022 12:13

Thanks. She has a karaoke-type thing that doesn't get used much, my 4yo has a decent keyboard and we also have a piano so no need for a keyboard really, and she has an ice cream maker from last Christmas. Velvetisers seem really popular but I can't get my head around paying £100 for something that makes hot chocolate? We use the milk frother thing on the coffee machine to make nice frothy hot chocolate and the kids love it. I'm sure there must be more to it but it's a bit lost on me!

Another idea I had was a chocolate fountain but a bit concerned it will be used a few times and then take up space in the kitchen cupboard!

If she enjoys drawing maybe a samsung tablet with pen so she can start doing digital drawing. That's the main thing my DD13 wanted for her birthday and the thing all her friends seem to have/covet. We picked up the Samsung galaxy tab s6 lite with pen for £219 at the begining of summer, I imagine Cyber Monday will have some good deals too.

@psuedocream3, that would be right up her street! Thanks so much. Question though, my husband is an architect and does a lot of drawing on his work iPad with an apple pen. My DD has started doing a bit of that too and loves it. Would a drawing tablet like the one you mention basically be that but specifically for drawing only? It would obviously be her very own which she'd be thrilled with but is that basically what it is?

To be honest, any tablet that has pressure control and a pen would work. Apple is fantastic but obviously pricey but you can use Procreate on Ipad, but it's only for Apple products. I chose the Samsung as it was about half the price, and my daughter specifically wanted Ibis X Paint software which was available on Android. Please dont waste money on a drawing tablet (with or without screen) as they have to be connected to a laptop/device to be able to use which generally means it's not portable but requires two devices unnecessarily instead of just a tablet. A tablet also can use other applications which you cant with a drawing tablet. I thoroughly researched it in August and those were my conclusions. I am looking for one for me actually, I will be investing in an Ipad but I intend to use it professionally, if I wasn't I would stick with the Samsung. I hope that helps!

Horse riding or instrument lessons?

CoffeeChocolateWine · 29/09/2022 13:14

@psuedocream3, ahh ok, I misunderstood and thought the one you mentioned was a specific drawing tablet. But it's a tablet with the drawing software that she wants, but she can use for other stuff too? And that's interesting what you said about the specific drawing tablets - they don't work on their own and have to be linked to a laptop. I don't know much about them admittedly, but I didn't know that. Thanks so much for your help. Will do some research as I think she would love something like that.

Cricut?

I am thinking about it too. DD has an Ipad and with a drawing pen and that is great, though she hasn't used Procreate yet (I've added it but she's not got the hang of it - has ASD and is behind her peers).

DD 10 will be getting my old phone for Xmas. She will also be getting a laptop for her 11th birthday in Jan. She's also had a new scooter recently from the grandparents.

Mini waffle maker
Fabrics to sew with, maybe squares? (she has a sewing kit she's keen to use)
Really good drawing pens and colouring pens (wide range of colours)
Sketch pads
New cake tin (heart shaped)
Books
Roller skates possibly
New cosy bedding and other cosy things eg oodie

I realise none of these are big presents! Hobbycraft is good for ideas.
