How do you reign yourself in (present buying)

I've been looking at presents recently/keeping my eye out for ideas for the DC. I've seen soooo many things that they'd love. How do you restrict yourself?? I know they don't need (and certainly won't be getting) 30 presents each, but how do you decide which ones to get? Do you just get their most asked for ones/ones at the top of the list?

Also bear in mind if you have family, extra gifts from them too.
DD is a teen now and still doesn't like lots of gifts - finds it a bit overwhelming. As a child she didn't like clothing gifts. Stocking gifts were from Santa and mostly little time and inexpensive items.
Now I stick to something she wants, something she needs, something to wear and something to eat. Plus she has a spring birthday and we run out of ideas if she gets it all for Christmas.

The thought of finding a home for it all puts me off buying too much.

My main thing now is not buying too early.
Mine both have birthdays fairly close to Xmas but in the past that's meant I've ended up buying lots of bits early, thinking the presents will be for one or the other, and ended with loads - then nearer Xmas they've wrote their lists and so ended up with more!
This year I'm doing nothing til the lists are written and go from there.

My kids have only ever had 1 gift from their parents, plus a stocking. They get plenty from other family.

I also use the Gift List app... It's brilliant and really helps you keep a track of presents bought and budget.

Sadly we don’t have much family, so all gifts come from us.

I am going to have to economise this year with grandchildrens pressies. I get a lot of pleasure giving them a bag of gifts. However, I have set an equal budget for each of them and buying
Something they want
Something they need
Something to wear
And something go read.
I read this suggestion somewhere and thought it sounded a good idea
