Fro my childhood (80s) I remember a toy that I would call a desk top toy or stocking filler. From memory it was a small black board with loads of tiny silver metal magnetic pieces that you could pick up and mould in to be shapes. What are they called please and do they still exist????

Kinetic sand?

Oh I remember them, mainly because the a teacher at my school kept one with paperclips on it on top of the new, just coming into schools desktop computer tower. Completely fried the memory.

These came up when I googled magnetic paperweight. Am I thinking of the right thing?

Sounds like these Magnetic Sculpture Kits

We bought them for our kids stockings last year from B&M, they were around £3.99 each I think.

We had a couple of those! Loved it. Mine was made out of tiny flat metal diamond shaped pieces, and my brother’s was little steel balls.

This is one of our B&M ones….

Yes! Magnetic sculpture that's it. It had tiny diamond pieces - I get the best result if I search retro magnetic sculpture but doesn't take me to a link to buy

Oh wait that's pin art flying tiger sell.

The thing you describe I remember from the 90s as an "executive toy"- the magnetic bits could be balls or little people or stars or whatever

I got my dd one in B&M of little magnetic stars and moons. Is lovely. My dad has the diamond one on his desk and I always loved being allowed to sit there and play with it as a kid.
