Dd wants a switch, I can see a switch lite, a switch old, a neon switch, I'm confused!
So what is best one to get and will they likely be on a black Friday sale or am I better to get one now?

Switch lite is handheld only so doesnt connect to a tv. Not heard of neon

dementedpixie · 25/08/2022 12:57

Just googled and the OLED one has a slightly larger screen

princessbear80 · 25/08/2022 12:59

Switch light can’t connect to the TV, is handheld only.

The other switch can be handheld and connects to the TV - this is what we have and I’d recommend it. Much more fun to play the games on a big screen. There is an older version of this but I’m not too sure of the differences - I think the newer one has a better screen, don’t know what else.

Neon is just a colour choice!

There haven’t been great deals around from what I remember. I think I got a discount ordering through Very as a new customer last year.

OK so the one connecting to the TV sounds like the best one and can you get extra controllers or does it come with 2?

Switch neon is just the colours of a standard switch.

A standard switch can be connected to the TV and has detachable joy cons. It gives more options as can be played handheld or on the large tv screen giving better graphics.

The lite is just a portable one. It is cheaper and comes in a range of colours.

JanglyBeads · 25/08/2022 13:03

You can buy extra controllers

princessbear80 · 25/08/2022 14:53

It comes with two controllers. You can buy extra if you want.

It comes with 2 controllers so you are able to play with another person , you don't get this with the switch lite.

We have the OLED and it does connect to the tv and comes with two controllers. We bought it at the beginning of the year and DH monitored the prices online for quite a while beforehand and it barely changed price (Amazon, John Lewis etc). I think it’s one of those items that holds its value and you won’t get it at a bargain price (could be wrong of course!). We paid about £330 from Amazon last January.

Greenstar22 · 25/08/2022 20:45

Thanks everyone, doesn't look like they really go on offer now buy at least I known what I'm buying now!

We got dd7 the neon one which connects to TV. Tbh she never uses it on TV, she uses it as a handheld. Loves it. I'm glad we got that one as if we want to play with her we can put it on TV. We originally thought about getting a lite one but at the time she was always using mine on the TV so opted for TV one for her too.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 25/08/2022 23:38

I never see them on offer either. They seem to have always maintained their price.

Twilightstarbright · 26/08/2022 08:04

It dropped very slightly on Prime Day in July, and Very price matched so I paid £239 for a normal Switch which was the cheapest I’d seen in a while.

SurpriseSurprise · 26/08/2022 08:06

With the switch, can you get interactive type games like the old wii sports?

You can buy two extra for four player games.

Switch Sports. The controls are not as good as Wii Sports, because the Wiimote controller was better than the Switch Joycons for this purpose, but it's still fun.

They rarely go on offer. Only really offers tend to be with bundles e.g. certain games with the console.
We have the original switch which connects to the TV or that can be used as a handheld and works really well. We all play as a family or dc play when their friends come round. We have four sets of controllers. If you get extra controllers you will need some sort of port to charge them ideally as they will only charge when connected to the console, but can only connect two at once.

Dc also have their own switch lites (saved up their own birthday and Christmas money). They also work well but like pp said can't connect to the TV. They are still selling at the same price as dc bought them about 18 months ago.
