Has anyone seen any of the Christmas Magazines in the shops yet please? I've got a long journey home tonight and wondering if it's worth going via WH Smith's for some festive reading.

Nothing yet (although I am trying not to buy any this year), however when I've been needing that festive-fix I've been using my Library app to download old November and December issues of magazines like Good Housekeeping and Country Living (I especially like the American issues). Could you do something like that?

NoWordForFluffy · 16/08/2022 19:32

The first ones are usually about now. Keep your eyes peeled!

Just saw this in my local shop....had a quick flick through but didn't buy as seemed very similar to previous years ..Good food Home Made Christmas

VivaJen · 20/08/2022 16:16

Snap @ChristmasPuddingAllRound despite swearing every year that I will not buy lots of Christmas magazines I caved yesterday and bought it despite having at least 5 years of back issues! I blame the fact that I was in Tesco and they had the tubs of sweets on offer!

@VivaJen I will probably cave in the next week or so...I say the same every year but somehow I always end up with at least 3 different magazines 😂

So strange to read this, I had a little look in my local coop this morning for some! Didn’t see any though 😔 I might buy one from eBay to keep me entertained for now 🎄

The sweet tins are out as well??

There's very little reasing in them , I have my GH2021 here and out of 250 pages , 30 are adverts , then there are 'promotions' which are basically selling , the last 18 or so are 'exclusive special offers' for holidays , luxury jumpers , foods

I used to buy a few magazines but realised they are very samey so cut it back to the GH mag + GH Christmas food . Usually these are about Guy Fawkes time .

Craft ones much earlier as they need the time to do

Yajebbend · 20/08/2022 21:08

Have you seen the readily app? All the magazines you could ever want and back issue.

free trial too.

I’ve had for a few years shared between 4 of us and I love it!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/08/2022 21:28

I'm not keen on Kindle reading , ok on a holiday to have a dozen books , but I like my solid paper for Christmas magazines .
In 2020 I could only get the smaller sized GH , I felt ripped off I tell you Xmas Shock . Not the same at all

VivaJen · 16/09/2022 21:19

Couple of Christmas magazines spotted in Tesco, the Country Living one and GH are in a pack for £9.99.

And

I RESISTED!!!!!!

Well done, @VivaJen!

I'll get the GH one. But I really need to not buy as many this year.

Always4Brenner · 18/09/2022 16:46

Every December unless eyes don’t allow it misties etc I buy the woman's mags I don’t buy them in the year but love buying them in December started this 34 years ago when I first worked in London. It’s a treat and a tradition now and will be doing this year.

TheGirlWhoLived · 18/09/2022 16:49

All the mags were out in sainsburys yesterday- currently flicking through country living and simply Christmas. The good housekeeping red one is just recipes so a bit disappointing

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/09/2022 16:57

I saw the GH one today ( yes red cover) something on the cover about leftovers and something else about chocolate . I had a very quick look (I don't want to paw at a magazine then put it back) .
Seemed very same old same old , but I have no doubt I'll buy it before December .

I have told my DC we're doing an aftrnoon tea on the first Friday in December ( it's the earliest say I can buy everything I need and we'll all be together )

My DS face was Xmas Hmm so I've said he can have toasted cheese rather than sandwiches .
Then after the cakes and tea are done , I'll put my feet up with the GH Christmas edition.
