Best and worst Orchard Toys games?

LittleRedYoshi · 10/08/2022 14:34

Usually get the kids an Orchard Toys game each for Christmas. For the most part, we really like them but there has been the odd dud (e.g. Rainbow Unicorns). Suggestions on what to go for or avoid, please? Kids are 5 and 3, but happy to take suggestions for when they're older too.

Games that we already have and like:

  • Shopping List
  • Cheeky Monkeys
  • Magic Maths
  • Pizza Pizza

Frog party (practices addition to 10) Shopping list, pop to the shops - but we use real money. The map jigsaws are goodb as so sturdy but beyond age group you are looking.
We also have
Run run as fast as you can. Might be a bit beyond the younger one unless you don't use the catchers. We are only starting to now youngest is 5
Baa baa - good for under 4/5 yr old maybe
Smelly wellies - just another memory game
10 green bottles - learning counting up to 10

I'm sure there's more but can't think of them right now so prob not that great!

If you aren't necessarily sticking to orchard, dobble is a fab game.

Crash, bang, wallop is great, also the French shopping one - faire les courses? And Tummy Ache.

Dd loves penguin pairs, we also have a sheep one which makes us both feel quite silly as we can't work out how you are supposed to play, we've just ended up making our own version.

We like Sleepy Sloths the best.

The most played with in our house is Shopping list which you already have (though they do expansion packs) and giraffes in scarfs.

We bought a friend Dress up Nellie as a gift and apparently that went down really well too.

Dd6 currently lives magic maths and money match cafe depending on the age of your children

Mine loved tummy ache at that age! We played it to death, think it might still be in the cupboard!

But if you wanted other games than orchard toys I recommend dobble, jenga, bugs in the kitchen, monopoly/game of life junior, frustration, snakes & ladders, crocodile dentist.

I bought bus stop to help some of the children in my year 1 class with maths. I was disappointed and thought it was overcomplicated. They absolutely loved it.

Money match cafe is a big win here..we set out the wee tables with toys and do the whole cafe play bit and some of the customers get very raucous..
Tummy ache STILL a favourite here even though its far too simple now.
Daughter likes mammoth maths but I hate it.
The first times tables one with pancakes is enjoyed too.
Pigs in pants we didn't like.
Bus stop was loved, mostly because of the faces on the buses.
Magic spelling and maths both good.
We've had orchard games since teeny, first one was shopping game. Now 7 and still enjoying the more learning ones but loves the old ones for familiarity.
