Nintendo Switch

DS will be just turned 7 this Christmas and we are definitely getting him a Nintendo Switch. He has tried them out before at friends' houses.

I'm clueless as to what to buy, the games are so expensive! Is it best to buy one with a game he's familiar with (Mario Kart or Sonic) and then ask for one or two more from family who don't know what to buy him? Also any tips on the best place to buy one would be much appreciated. I've seen online that Currys do a price-match style deal so assuming I'll go there.

The newer one is the Oled version. Better screen and battery. Make sure you get a case and screen protector. We also got the adapter that makes them into proper controllers. Mine loved mario kart, mario Odyssey and splatoon. I would be wary with currys. We had an absolute nightmare with them last year, stuff arrived damaged, sent stuff back and took near 3 months to refund. I would only go to them if stock in store

Keep an eye on prime day/Black Friday. I got ours from Very when they price matched Amazon. We’ve started with Mariokart and Pokémon and will get more games for future birthdays/Christmas.

We got my son one for his birthday , there was 10% off at Very and it came with Mariokart. His grandad then got him games too

Brilliant, thanks for all the tips! And for the advice about Currys, I would've gone with that otherwise.

Do you think it's risky waiting until Black Friday? I don't suppose it'll be a sell out item will it, as it's not a new console or anything?

We did black Friday at tescos. But it was an arrive at 5am with the other dads hovering for the handful to be put out type thing!

Yoshi’s crafted world is a firm favourite with my ds. He played it when he was 5 and loved it.

One two switch is a favourite here. And mario kart. And they like the just dance and sports ones.

We got my 7 year old a oled switch for last Christmas. He loves it and his favourite game is Luigis mansion, Mario kart is a close second favourite.

There are so many great games for the Switch. Mario Kart is always a good choice, Switch Sports is good family fun as is Mario Party, Ultimate Chicken Horse, Overcooked and Fall Guys. The Lego games are good for kids too and there's the Zelda and Pokémon games. Always look online for games, they're usually cheaper online than in physical stores. If you can get an OLED version of the Switch then do, the battery life and screen improvements are well worth it.
