Wrapping throughout the year

Do any of you wrap Christmas presents as you buy them throughout the year? Last year I was wrapping on Christmas Eve which was a nightmare and frankly spoiled the fun. This year I am seriously considering wrapping as I buy, and I tend to buy early. Does the sellotape last, do the presents get crumpled looking? Would be keeping them in a cupboard. Would love to hear your experiences good or bad, and any tips. Much appreciated.

I've wrapped in October before because I was pregnant. I kept the gifts in bin bags because I was worried about them being dusty.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/01/2022 20:15

I wrap as I buy. Then forget what I bought. I wrapped a month before and the sellotape was fine.

Nah wrapping is a December job! If you've bought all before then, you can wrap easily throughout the minth.

A first surely? A Christmas thread in January!

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 28/01/2022 20:22

My problem would be forgetting what was in them/what I’d spent so no!

StoatMilk · 28/01/2022 20:23

Crikey a month before @DobbyTheHouseElk
I was thinking of starting the wrapping now Grin

Already started wrapping. They get stored in a cupboard and don't get touched until the appropriate birthday or Christmas arrives. Never had any issue with the sticky tape and the paper is fine so long as you don't cram too much in the cupboard, when it might rip. The better quality the paper the less risk of this though and for kids I've found an extra bit of tape on any little holes on Christmas eve is just fine - they don't even notice. Only advice is to keep a really good, accurate list. Some people use an app and photo each gift before wrapping but I'm old school and find a paper list just as good. Certainly saves the stress Christmas eve and means that if I'm ill or can't get out in the Christmas run up, everything is sorted for the tiny people anyway so no magic lost!

I wouldn't as I would forget exactly what I had and then I would over buy.

itwasntaparty · 28/01/2022 20:25

I buy stuff and stash it, and can't remember what / where it is. If I wrapped them I'd be in even more trouble.

CathyorClaire · 28/01/2022 20:32

Hate wrapping and always swear I'm going to wrap as I go when I survey the naked pile taunting me but I never do Hmm
What I do do is keep a list on the computer and add to it as I buy then chop and change between Xmas and birthday so pre-wrapping would stymie that anyway.

I try to wrap a few weeks in advance so it's done but I did once make the mistake of leaving it until Christmas Eve. That's an ironclad 'never again'. Was a nightmare with everything else to be done Angry

givethatbabyaname · 28/01/2022 20:33

Is there no compromise between 1 day before and 330 days before?

Robin233 · 28/01/2022 20:46

Wrap in November.

user1493494961 · 28/01/2022 21:01

I've already started buying but won't wrap until November.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/01/2022 00:02

My DC presents are small (and £ they're adults) DS usually has money transferred into his bank account so saves a card ! (He asks for money, I;m not depriving him of a present)

Their Dec 1st Hampers go into huge bags that are kept for years , no wrapping .
Last year I decided to buy DD a coat (inspired by the puffer coat thread on Style&Beauty) then had a mad dash trying to find paper !

Anything I buy , I take a photo on my phone . That would work with wrapped presents , phot , date stamped

shouldistop · 29/01/2022 09:06

I tend to buy in November and wrap in December. I wouldn't leave it til Christmas Eve though.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 29/01/2022 12:39

I don't wrap throughout the year otherwise I would forget what I've bought but I also don't leave wrapping till the last day. I like to wrap while watching Christmas movies normally the weekend before Christmas.

Omicrone · 29/01/2022 12:41

No, I feel like it would take the joy out of Christmas. I don't tend to leave it all to Xmas eve, but in the week or so before I do enjoy a wrapping session with a sherry or Baileys Smile

mummabubs · 29/01/2022 12:49

So, my mother-in-law does this and every Christmas it's always the running joke that at least one person will get a duplicate gift or someone gets a gift meant for someone else as she forgets what's in them. It also means sometimes that one grandchild get significantly more gifts than others, again as she loses track of how much she's bought for each of them. (Another pointer I'd say about buying kids gifts early is that what they like at this time of year and what's age appropriate can change hugely before Christmas).

Personally I start buying in October/ November and just keep them all in a storage box away from prying eyes and then do it bit by bit in the month beforehand.

feelsobadfeltsogood · 29/01/2022 14:09

I'm considering wrapping as I go I was the same - Christmas Eve wrapping is extremely stressful isn't it?

I've bought some big clip and lock boxes and I'm going to store the presents in them so that they dont get dusty or squashed.

I've also bought the Christmas Eve box contents in the sales too (pyjamas, Christmas craft bits and stickers, new Christmas mugs etc...) and I'll add the edible bits in when it gets nearer the time.

BadgerStripes · 29/01/2022 20:07

It’s definitely worth a try if you’ve got the space for boxes @feelsobadfeltsogood I’m going to try it this year.

Cattitudes · 29/01/2022 20:30

I upcycle clothes into present bags and so wrapping is super quick, find a bag and bung it in. I therefore don't wrap until near Christmas but I do make bags through the year as suitable clothing is available.
