Christmas was ruined for me

I'm still so irritated by it and by my thoughtless dh.

This year I'm working from Dec 20th right through Christmas. I want to do something for myself in December that's festive but won't make me feel lonely because I'm definitely not taking dh! but not sure what.

Any ideas? Smile

Could you do a wreath making workshop?

camperqueen54 · 23/01/2022 16:10

Are you talking about next Dec? Why? Concentrate on the other 11 months before then!

Because I like something to plan and this is the Christmas section!

What did your H do?

Moonshine86 · 23/01/2022 16:18

I will be booking this for me my mother and daughter as a festive treat. The markets are truly stunning.

AlDanvers · 23/01/2022 16:23

I think planning this is a great idea.

My mum ruined everyone's Christmas 2021. Though it wasn't her fault. She unexpectedly died in early December and the funeral was on the 30th. (Can you tell darkish humour is getting me through?)

I have been dreading next Christmas already. Planning nice things is a lively thing to do.

Well done for taking it into your own hands. Smile

TheDaydreamBelievers · 23/01/2022 16:25

How about a short holiday to somewhere snowy and festive?

TooManyPJs · 23/01/2022 16:28

What did you DH do?

fernsandlilies · 23/01/2022 16:57

I did a glass fusion workshop with teen DC making Christmas ornaments, we all loved it.

WildFlowerBees · 23/01/2022 17:15

I'm so sorry @AlDanvers, dark humour isn't a bad thing. When I called the funeral director for a date for my mum he gave me X date which was weeks after her dying so I agreed the date then before he put the phone down I said 'if you get a cancellation would you let me know' Confused I wasn't being funny just brain wasn't engaged. Dh and had a really good laugh about it later though.

Sending my thoughts to you Thanks

Day trip to a nice city for lunch, a matinee, maybe some late night shopping/a Christmas market.

HelloDulling · 23/01/2022 17:21

Bath is lovely at Christmas.

MissyB1 · 23/01/2022 17:41

We are going away next Christmas. Booking a hotel in the Cotswolds for 3 nights. Have yourself a mini break before Christmas.

liveforsummer · 23/01/2022 17:47

I'm my sire you're still going to be angry with DH next December, or if you are then maybe a divorce for Xmas? 👀

WildFlowerBees · 23/01/2022 18:06

No I won't be angry, however I won't be planning another Christmas with him. He hates anything to do with Christmas and for years his unhappiness has trumped my happiness. This year I want to do something I will enjoy I've put everyone before myself for far too long.

I agree.
Sounds like a good Christmas will be separating from your DH.

WildFlowerBees · 23/01/2022 18:19

No, this isn't about should I separate from my dh, this is about me finding something I love to do in December, on my own.

Find a cinema showing It's a Wonderful Life and book a nice hotel for the night. In Newcastle there is Christmas market near to a lovely little cinema which shows it annually and does a really nice afternoon tea.

Work as an elf or Mrs Claus for a few days?

It's wonderful seeing how the kids love seeing you and Santa! And it's a great "humbug" to anti-Christmas Scrooge DH!

This is brilliant, how do I apply to be an elf and is there an elf school like Harry Potter I can attend?!

Be in a Christmas pantomime. Christmas everyday until mid January, love it.

If that doesn’t float your boat I would suggest creating a seasonal plan. Plan what day your tree goes up, what day for shopping, what day to do a Christmas themed outing, day for baking, day for markets. Book up your calendar and get friends to accompany you. Then on the 22nd jump on a plane to somewhere hot for 5 days.
