Anyone got any tips on pretty but cheap ways to package home made sweets/biscuits to be given as presents?

Some nice fabric tied with ribbon. Like what you would use to make favours at weddings. Is it organza??? I'm sure you could get some off ebay.

cheap tins from a cookware shop/woolies/supermarket, and lined with a pretty paper napkin (I used some of the Cath Kidston spotty ones). I would only use for biscuits - sweets may stick to the paper. Alternatively sellophane gathered into a bag shape and tied with gorgeous ribbon - you can even buy patterned sellophane with stars etc on if you could lay hands on it.
