Ds (11) has told me that DD (7) thinks that Santa isn’t real. The reason being, she found some of her presents (they were in my home office drawer, so she must have been properly snooping Hmm)

Not sure if we should have a word and try to convince her (I left the presents out for Santa to add to your stocking, something like that) or just leave it now? Or do we come clean? Any advice welcome!

I would probably just leave it now, she will be 8 next year, she might forget about it or she might consolidate her position. See what she is saying next autumn.

I always said that I bought some of the presents and gave them to Santa, and when questioned about Santa being real I never lie.

I believe in Santa and that is my story and I am sticking to it.

Thanks, think I agree with this. I don’t want to spin an elaborate lie.

I would just say those ones are from you and others from Santa

Say nothing, you could dig a bigger hole.

My 10yo knows but still can't work out how we do it. Wink

My answer was always if Santa doesn't exist he can't bring you presents

Frgalone · 26/12/2021 16:22

I think children are really quite savvy, and past 6 or 7 they just go along with it to humour us. We did stockings from santa, and over the years it became stockings from 'santa'. We certainly never did a big reveal.

I think most still believe at 6 but are starting to question by 7 or 8, but it amazes me when people say their 9 / 10 year olds really believe.

I sat and told my daughter when she was 10 that father Christmas didn't exist and she burst into tears.

She said she'd known for about 3 years but didn't want the Christmas Eve rituals to stop 😂😂
