I'm so bored, christmas disappointment

Elderly parents are watching TV, have been watching TV all day, but complaining about how there is nothing on worth watching. Adult siblings have been scrolling social media for hours and napping. Teen kids are doing god knows what. I'm so bored! I've suggested walks, and then gone for a walk by myself twice. I've suggested games, or even just conversations. No-one is bothered. I'm disappointed. I spent christmas alone last year because of covid and was really looking forward to this year. We've always had so much fun in the past and this year it seems no-one can be bothered.

I’d be taking the fuse out of the plug on the tv next year! Or just not inviting people over

I hear you. There were some nice bits but to be honest I was just so grateful we got to Xmas without testing positive that I couldn’t relax. I think I was also expecting it to be the best ever given that last year was so terrible. I also felt guilty that we were socialising together which I know is irrational.

I honestly think I am done with the traditional 'Christmas'. Both our families are awful, and live hundreds of miles away so no popping in for a few hours or one day. We have no kids of our own. We both hate the hype and the pressure to find it all 'joyful' and 'magical'. I think in future, we will just treat it like a Sunday, and laze around at home, or get out of the house and volunteer somewhere.

Yeah, I'm at friends. It's been an ok day, all considered, but for hours now the TV has been blaring and the last 2-3 hours they've been snoring. I can't go to bed as I'm sleeping in their lounge! I'm shattered, I just want to go to bed!

Lottapianos · 26/12/2021 01:17

Oh god, you poor thing. It's 1am! That's ridiculous

Feelingoood · 26/12/2021 03:03

Oh gosh Boxing Day tomorrow!what the buggering heck do you do ?

AngryWithH · 26/12/2021 03:46

@Lottapianos

Rant away. Christmas is the most overhyped load of crud if you ask me. It's fine if you're in your own home with just people you want to be with, otherwise it can be suffocating. I'm always glad when it's over
Oh yes!!!!!!!!

We demand charades and everyone actually loves it. We then put on the telly and the kids are allowed on their phones then

Always feel bored and fed up Christmas Day, love the build up and the days before and the anticipation. Dd was up and all presents opened by 9am!! Spent most of the day cooking and then that was it. Miss our old family Christmases at my sister's in Oxford, it was always such fun and we'd play games, go for walks etc. We lost her five years ago so nothing is really the same anymore.

Christmas is incredibly boring I hate it and tv was rubbish so I ended up making a model house and counting the hours until bedtime.
Its the same every year.
I like being out, going swimming, meeting friends, working, looking round shops, doing evening classes.
Christmas makes me feel incredibly trapped and nobody wants to do anything.

Sorry for your loss lollipop.

I'm feeling like this too. Massively peri-menopausal and it's making everthing worse.

My childhood Christmases were alway spend with my large family where we'd have dinner then a party and while I may have romanticised somewhat I remember them fondly and wish for that sort of Christmas for my kids

This too.
