How ready are you?

Okay so I can’t get motivated. Parents arriving to tomorrow to stay the week . Four additional guests coming for dinner on Christmas Day - and another four on Boxing Day.

I got the booster yesterday and an shattered.

Guest room is ready - most if the food shop is done and presents are wrapped.

But, I had this lovely idea of having a relaxing Christmas Eve. I need to be at the butcher first thing. And still have veg etc to buy. The lychee isn’t clean and the dining room is also a mess😩.

I have no idea what I am wearing any of the days. Nothing fits.

I just want to cancel the whole thing.

Anyone else?

The kitchen not the lychee! I haven’t even bought any lychee! Should I have

It's your booster talking. You'll be fine tomorrow.

I am ready. Bread sauce made this morning and in the fridge; I cheated with ready made gravy this year, and bought ready made stuffing from the butcher. We're hosting Christmas lunch but in a holiday cottage which makes it quite stressful but also weirdly makes me feel a bit detached and not to blame if it all goes wrong.

I have also got a turkey breast joint from an expensive butcher and throwaway foil trays so that makes it a bit easier.

I still have to: vacuum all upstairs, change sheets for my son, scrub bathroom.
Vacuum all downstairs. Unpack three clear boxes full of stuff that's been sitting by the dining table since we moved in four months ago. No idea where it's all going to go.
Go to storage unit to put back wrapping paper and box of ribbons and tags. And try to find the beautiful Sophie Conran mistletoe china I bought as a gift to myself when I sold my last house - I have all the platters, serving bowls and even cake stand but can't find the two boxes of plates, side plates and bowls! The storage unit is chocka block.
Go collect said son from 50 miles away at 8pm (he's working, touch and go whether he'd make last train plus I am worried they'll cancel it). Sleep.
Ops forgot go back to shop to buy second apple crumble as the one delivered is for two not four 🙄

I did wonder about the lychee!

VanLife · 23/12/2021 21:45

Very!

You’re never really ‘ready’. You just run out of time.

I must be tired, because this feels incredibly deep.

OP, get scrubbing that lychee.

All decorating done, baking done, caroet cleaning done. But the house has alot of work left in terms of cleaning and putting things away etc. I have wrapping to do. And I'll need to do an hour or so of work in the

I'm not ready although due to covid it's just us 4 for Christmas so in reality if I don't make things immaculate no one will care.

I have wrapped. I should do the housework as I don't want to look at mess. I'm working from home tomorrow though so time is tight.

Carrot?
Charriot?

I'm currently diving my list into things I really need to do myself and stuff my visitors can help with.

I intend to have a lovely Xmas eve with my kids tomorrow - if that means MIL is chopping spuds and PIL is laying the table, happy days!

I've done some fab Xmas "poncing" and a lot of the dinner is already cooked and in the freezer. Our corner shop is open 10-2 on Christmas Day and quite frankly, I cba to do anymore on my own. I'm gonna wait until the cavalry arrive tomorrow afternoon!

StCharlotte · 24/12/2021 00:09

Surprisingly!

Pensieve · 24/12/2021 00:12

Got everything and will spend tomorrow enjoying some light prep and special Xmas Eve dinner. As just us and DC we don’t have to clean like maniacs and instead have been doing it at a more leisurely pace all week.

Sad to not to family/friends but also enjoying the chill vibes Smile

@TheHoptimist

I’d guess carpet but I realllllly hope it’s a chariot. Grin

I have around half a dozen more presents to wrap, DH is getting last-minute shop in the morning (bread, cream, lettuce etc) and there's a load of tidying and whatnot to do. Stuff like sorting out tablecloths and cutlery, all that jazz. It will happen one way or another - I'm not going to stress about it, I have plenty of other things keeping me stressed out at the moment, I don't need any more.
