Christmas dinner alone

Christmasismyoyster · 21/12/2021 23:54

I’m going to be alone on Christmas Day, I’m trying to make it a nice bit of quiet time alone rather than depressing.
Left to my own devices I’ll eat a few chocolates, decide I’m too lazy to cook and then make a slice of toast - which doesn’t really scream festive.

So what would you eat? It needs to feel a little luxurious, but be suuuuper easy to prepare. I can’t see me making a whole Christmas dinner for myself anyway! Xmas Smile

Also open to any suggestions for how to spend the day other than getting drunk Xmas Grin

I'm alone Smile am having an Indian takeaway
Going to binge watch the new season of Emily in Paris, maybe have a bath or a nap, read a book.. luxuriate in no family arguments Grin

Sebastianthecoo · 22/12/2021 00:55

@NMC2022 I was going to recommend Emily in Paris and I’m so happy I didn’t know there was a new season!

Hope you have a lovely, peaceful day OP. I’d probably have pain au chocolate for breakfast and a Chinese takeaway with a bottle of wine for dinner then some quality street.

NMC2022 · 22/12/2021 01:00

@Sebastianthecoo starts today!

ShippingNews · 22/12/2021 01:02

I've done it in the past. I just watched movies and ate my favorite foods - prawns and chocolate. I hope you enjoy your day, whatever you decide to do .

If you are near us (east Northants) you are welcome to join us. We have no local family and happy to share the spirit of Christmas x

That’s a wider shout out too

I'm nowhere near you but that is such a lovely offer. Flowers
HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 22/12/2021 01:07

Half crispy duck with pancakes. Champagne/Prosecco/sparkling wine.

Cheese board. Wine.

Berry pavlova.

Storminamu · 22/12/2021 01:15

I did this a couple of years ago. I bought a nice ready prepared roast from Marks and Spencers, and a luxury pudding from them too. I went on a rather special walk I hadn't got round to doing yet. It was a nice day.

WildRunner · 22/12/2021 01:16

Christmas is about comfort, cheese and time to read. So if I were on my own the must haves are: new, clean. PJs with pockets, fresh bedding, baked Camembert and assorted molten cheese snacks, box set no-one else wants to watch, brand new book with brand new book smell, and a massive long walk in the fresh air with fave audiobook.

Very lucky that my husband is of the same mind!

SimpsonsXmasBoogie · 22/12/2021 01:20

Lovely pasta dish + glass of wine. Something chocolaty for dessert.

Croissants, fruit and orange cake for breakfast. Fiorentines.

A lovely book.

Clarefromwork · 22/12/2021 01:33

I have always thought this one tray Christmas dinner looks nice and want to try making it one day !

DiscontentedWoman · 22/12/2021 02:20

I'd have a plate of beautiful smoked salmon, fat juicy prawns, wobbly homemade mayonnaise - basically a platter of some lovely fish and shellfish, washed down with white wine or fizz.
Having said that, last night I grazed on a bowl of radishes with roast beef monster munch and thoroughly enjoyed it 😬 so that's another winning combo 😉

Radishes and roast beef monster munch sounds totally fucking bizarre, but the more I think about it, the more I want to try it...
HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 22/12/2021 09:23

I keep forgetting about seafood platters!! Probably because we don’t have easy access to beautiful seafood. But in an idea world that’s what I’d have.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 22/12/2021 09:30

*Ideal

Christmasismyoyster · 22/12/2021 13:33

Amazing, thank you everyone
I’m really excited about ‘blissmas’ as a concept, it’s exactly what I need.

@Bunnyfuller thank you so much, I’m not nearby but what a lovely offer I hope you have a lovely Christmas.

Thank you to everyone for the very kind messages too!
I’m still not quite sure, but prawns and salmon keeps coming up a lot.
A really nice microwave meal ensures I’ll actually eat something too, rather than being too lazy to cook or get all the things out and then eating something not as fun.

I’m going to have a proper think about books and movies to watch so I don’t spend half the day just searching Netflix too Xmas Smile

This is such a lovely thread. I won't be alone, but I was going to be, this thread would be such lovely inspiration.

I'm thinking:
Christmas Eve - bath/face mask/nails painted
Baked camembert, delicious bread and nice things to dip in it
Gremlins

Christmas Day:
posh pastries, fruit and bucks fizz

easy roast - those little new potatoes in butter that can be roasted, a nut cutlet, M&S cauliflower cheese and red cabbage, stuffing (Paxo)
warm mince pies and cream

more mince pies for supper, maybe after some cheese and crackers

walk
Elf or The Grinch
bath with a book

Boxing Day -
leftover stuffing in rolls, with Quorn turkey slices and apple sauce
pickles
maybe a nice soup to eat with the rolls
more mince pies or maybe Yule log
long walk with hot chocolate in a flask and some veggie sausage rolls
Are the pubs open on Boxing Day? If yes, I'd maybe pop to the pub with my book for an hour

Amichelle84 · 22/12/2021 13:44

If I was going to be alone Xmas day I would go to a posh shop like M&S or Waitrose and buy loads of party food and crisps and chocolates and booze.

I'd wake up in the morning and call some people, have a nice bath and get in to clean PJs and graze, drink and watch films all day.
