I have brought DC to London to see Matilda as a major part of their Xmas gift. I knew it was a risk, but had we not come, and it had been on, we would have lost £300 for the 4 tickets and the train/hotel costs.
Ideas for nice things to do to take the sting out of it would be very much appreciated. Thank you

[quote Wouldcouldcantwont]Don't know how long you are in London for but there is an amazing outdoors art installation at Guildhall Yard by Dan Archer - he recreates the Northern Lights. It's on from 5.30 PM to 10 PM (last entry 9.30 PM) and the last day is tomorrow.

Should have said - whilst the timed tickets are fully booked there are walk up slots available and it's free! A friend saw it and they didn't have a booked ticket, said it was spectacular and there were no queues.

Liberty is bloody gorgeous at the moment.

I’ve never been to London (I’m almost 33) I’d love to visit one day with dh and the dc. It seems to have all sorts going on, and especially magical at Christmas time Xmas Smile

Hope you have a super day op Smile

Do please come back and tell us all about your hopefully magical bonus day - sometimes something really special can come out of the most disappointing thing.

@Wouldcouldcantwont I just wanted to thank you for posting about the Northern Lights installation- I hadn’t heard about it until you posted. I took my kids this evening, it was truly magical- what a great experience. Thank you. OP, I hope you’ve had a similarly great time.

I’m so pleased! I was supposed to go and see it, but had to isolate and can’t make tomorrow. Absolutely gutted.

thanks so much everyone, we had a great day and night :)
We walked from King Cross to Fortnum and Mason and around the shops then watched &juliet which was great. Thanks so much.

@whachatalkinaboutwillis

They are 14 and 16, I realise some may feel a bit old for Matilda but we saw it when they were 6 and 8 and it is there all time fav thing we ever did, they have been begging for a re run for years. They are gutted :(

Too top it off I am 90% sure I have just stepped in human shit outside Kings Cross station. FML.

Right, I am going to get a grip and make this a magically festive adventure of a day. Thanks for the suggestions. I am disabled to long walks are not an option but lots of these are perfect. Thank you

I’m not sure you can be too old for Matilda, OP! It’s wonderful. They will love it all over again when you get to see it rearranged in the new year. Am glad to see you managed to get tickets to see &juliet. Have heard great things about it. Hope you had a good day despite Matilda being cancelled.

On the Northern lights above - I have three spare tickets for tonight I can’t use if anyone would like them? DM me and I can send them over

Whydoiwearsomuchleopardprint · 22/12/2021 09:18

China town and Covent garden are great to visit. If you can get tickets to see back to the future musical, absolutely awesome and my kids loved it, was utterly brilliant fun!
