What do you do on Boxing Day?

Normally we don't do a huge deal. I find after a busy Christmas Day, it's the day of eating rubbish and putting together the kids new toys. Usually quick foods too as cannot be bothered to cook.

Growing up Boxing Day was still quite a bit day in our house. Almost like a second Christmas Day. I don't usually have the motivation to do lots again.

In Dp's house growing up they tend to get up early and go shopping. I've never been interested in traipsing around shops in Boxing Day either. I feel sorry for the staff. They also go to the pub but we have young dc so we don't.

However, this year I am sure we will be desperate to get out. We've all had or have covid. Dd will be allowed out on Christmas Eve so sure we will want ri be be out on Boxing Day.

We may just go for a walk on the beach. Or have a take away!

Looking for some inspiration? Something nice to do.

If we don't go into any restrictions 🤦‍♀️

My mum comes and we do the whole thing again!

Spiderelf · 19/12/2021 18:13

We visit family because we stay at home on Christmas day. So Christmas is our lazy day and boxing day is busy.

And yes we will still be visiting family no matter what.

ParkheadParadise · 19/12/2021 18:15

I plan to spend the day in my jammies eating crap and drinking wine.
Christmas day I'm having 30 in total for dinner 🙉🙉🙉

Misshape · 19/12/2021 18:15

It is my DS birthday so we always celebrate that. Not sure what the plan is this year as he can’t decide what he wants to do but it’s always all about him

Go to the footie of course

AD80 · 19/12/2021 18:21

@TigerDroveAgain

Go to the footie of course
That is a good point. Dp does not go watch it but I forget he'll want to watch it on tv all day 😅

Normally

Late breakfast - DH makes a start on his Lego build
Cinema
Out for a meal
Family games / tv / films

Incywinceyspider · 19/12/2021 18:32

We go to the in laws and do the whole thing over again. Before I met DP though it was very much a day for leftovers, chocolate and telly!

elQuintoConyo · 19/12/2021 18:42

Walk the dog.
Play with toys.
Eat leftovers.
Boardgames and films.

Christmas day is the three of us, boxing day is the three of us. We're at friends' on 24th for dinner. DH's family are antivax weirdos, so we won't be seeing them.

dancingbymyself · 19/12/2021 18:46

I go to work!

Timeisavirtue · 19/12/2021 23:00

We have a buffet, watch tv, watch football, play games...literally that’s it 😊

Snowmonkeycoat · 20/12/2021 01:55

We get up, eat junk, chill and play with any new toys, get dressed, go for a walk then go to my grandparents to see all of the extended family for a couple of hours . We return home, eat more junk and picky food then chill, I might also grab a long soak in the bath with my new smellies at this point too, then bed.

notangelinajolie · 20/12/2021 02:40

I love Boxing Day. It is the day of do nothing. Getup at lunch time. Don't get dressed. Eat shit, drink wine and be merry Wine

When the children were little we always attended DH's dad and his wife's 'buffet luncheon' but now they are divorced we don't have to go anywhere Xmas Grin

BoredatHome321 · 20/12/2021 04:41

Boxing Day football 😍

SunshineInMySprocket · 20/12/2021 06:35

We always go for a long walk to blow the cobwebs away (make room for more food, really). We’re hosting on Christmas Day so have 10 for lunch and out for dinner on Christmas Eve. Can’t wait!

fallhappy1 · 20/12/2021 17:37

We don't leave the house on boxing day. It's usually a pyjama, lay around the house, being lazy Kind of day.

Lovemusic33 · 20/12/2021 22:21

We go for a walk, by the coast if the weather is ok 😊, I’m rubbish at staying in for more than a day, it’s nice to get some fresh air and some exercise.

mamaduckbone · 20/12/2021 22:35

We normally have a bit more of a lazy / chilled day. Since I was a child Boxing Day dinner has always been cold turkey and chips (sometimes bubble and squeak, definitely picked onions, salad and loads of Hellman's mayo)
Sometimes we have mum or the in-laws, this year it will just be us. We'll drag the kids out for a big walk in the woods then slob in front of films, play games, eat chocolate.
I almost like it more than Christmas Day as all the pressure is off.

shakinsti · 20/12/2021 22:42

Usually not much- maybe watch a film, eat Christmas treats, kids play with their gifts, have a nap! Aside from last year, Christmas tends to be quite a full on, busy day so we need a day to recover!

This year OH has invited his family to visit, so I expect I'll spend the day cleaning and tidying and cooking 😡

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 20/12/2021 22:49

A nice walk in the morning then home to play with toys. We usually do a buffet (salad, fruit salad, sausage rolls, pizza, cheese board etc) that we have for lunch & dinner Grin which the dc love, it's good if visitors stop by too. So just an easy, relaxed day really.

Notdoingthis · 20/12/2021 23:23

Swimming

livinthedream1995 · 20/12/2021 23:31

We don’t have a tradition really anymore. Before my Dad emigrated, we used to spend the day with whichever of my parents we didn’t spend Christmas Day with (OH’s parents are useless and they rarely bother to fit us in at all over Christmas, nice eh). Since he’s emigrated we kind of just make it up as we go each year.

This year I think I’m going to see if my Step Auntie is about for an hour or so in the morning so we can exchange the kids presents and maybe take them for a run around the park. Probs spend the rest of the day at home setting up toys etc. Kids will then be going to my nans around 4/5ish for the night as I’m going in to be induced on the 27th, me and OH are hoping to go out for dinner in the evening as we haven’t had an evening alone in who knows how long and would be nice before 3rd comes next week 😊 my mum always does cheese and crackers on Boxing Day which is my favourite buffet, so might try and see if we can replicate it at home. Or go to my mums at lunchtime cos they always get it so right!!!
