Why does MIL always send us cards when she's coming for Christmas anyway?

It's a mystery, innit?

Do anyone else's parents do that?

southeastastra · 19/12/2007 16:47

yes mine does. if she doesn't receive one back from us by at least one week before, she'll call and ask where it is .

southeastastra · 19/12/2007 16:48

I sent my in-laws Christmas cards and we live next door to them. Not sure why we do it we just do

Elfsmummy · 19/12/2007 16:53

I do it too
Never really thought about it.
Is it weird? I don't think so.
Will ponder

I think I see cards as a sort of run up to Christmas thing?

Kathyate6mincepies · 19/12/2007 16:55

That makes some sense Elfsmummy. I see cards as a substitute for actually seeing people so if you see them it seems weird to me to send a card as well. Though obviously I am just saying it seems weird to me, not that it is objectively weird

Does she want to show up to see her card in pride of place, perhaps on its own shelf, surrounded by fairy lights and tinsel?

Kathyate6mincepies · 19/12/2007 17:49

Nope, she's not egotistical at all. Though obviously we always do the tinsel/fairy lights thing anyway.

Maybe she just wants to give you the chance to have the card up before Christmas. My MIL always sends ours beforehand, even though we go and visit them over Christmas week. I think it's quite nice. My mum doesn't though, we get them with the presents when we go up after Christmas. By the time we've done the tour of all the relatives and got home Christmas is almost over and its hardly worth putting the cards up. Almost not worth bothering with one at all.
