Just realised that we don’t have any!
We are a family of a teen and 4 adults. Where should I look for crackers?

I have just done it - 12 crackers from Tesco £5. white and silvery so will look nice on the table and enough to have another one on boxing day. All recylable The contents will be dreadful I am sure but fish or tiny screw drivers I am happy with . As above - after Christmas presents - I reckon crackers are just a festive tradition and I am no longer prepared to pay a fortune as they didn't give more enjoyment per £££

That said homemade crackers or those ones you fill yourself I can see would be lovely - but at the moment my time is taken up with trying to stop new puppy not unwrapping all our Christmas presents - found one of DH's under the coffee table. So this year it is cheap and cheerful for us. ( Kirsty eat your heart out Grin )

All best to everyone

@UndertheCedartree

We saw some crackers in Harrods for £120 - the gifts looked just as crap as any other!

I have made my own from a kit the last couple of years. Hotel Chocolat also have them with chocolate in (obviously!).

Yes, the so-called luxury ones just have ugly things inside! Nobody needs another bottle opener or sewing kit! I saw some once with Wade Whimsies inside...they were lovely if you like that sort of twee china animal. Kids like them anyway....

I ended buying tescos cheap ones 15 for £8
No fortune fish though!

And then I bought some v nice ones from Emma bridgewater in tkmaxx for £5 😀😀
The gifts look shite but they'll look good on the table

BasiliskStare · 19/12/2021 21:21

@FortunesFave Wades Whimsies - that's a blast from the past - but not paying to get one in a cracker - I had some 50 years ago when I was young. If I wanted a Wades Whimsy nowadays I would buy one ( I don't , apart from for nostalgic purposes the couple I have which live in a cupboard) - I do agree whatever is in the expensive crackers doesn't really cut the mustard for me.

Anyway - I have gone cheap and cheerful but they are a bit silvery & white and look nice.

I once did Christmas for my extended family & realised I had forgotten crackers - went round to corner shop and bought the cheapest ones they had and they weren't even particularly tasteful with the wrapping - No-one noticed. ( Or they were too polite to say so)

Cheapest ones I can find, open them up and pop something the family want in. Lego mini figures, chap sticks, mini toiletries, nail varnish etc

Update. I managed to buy a box of vintage 80s crackers and we're having those this Christmas. I won't crack them older than that...I have sets from pretty long time ago but the 80s...meh I remember the plastic toys in those and we're going to enjoy them again! I will share photos of the prizes if anyone cares to see them!

blibblibs · 22/12/2021 14:12

I've not seen nearly as many in the shops this year, so almost forgot to get them. Paid £10 for 6 in Tesco this morning, I'll be disappointed if no-one gets the wire egg cup!

mug2018 · 22/12/2021 14:19

I've just got the M&S ones with a can of cocktail inside 🍸... on offer for £15

Helpstopthepain · 22/12/2021 14:47

@FortunesFave

Helpstopthepain I would marry you but you can only look at my crackers and not pull them. Grin
Deal! Xmas Grin

I’ve still not got any crackers so think I’ll just have to hope that Sainsbury’s or Morrison’s have some tomorrow!

Helpstopthepain otherwise it's toilet rolls and crepe paper for you! Does anyone remember making "crackers" like that at school?

Helpstopthepain · 23/12/2021 15:35

God, I loved those Grin maybe next year! I got some, a little dull so I might attack them with the art cupboard (if I can be bothered obviously!).

@FortunesFave I need to know if you collect anything else?

Tesco £3.50 for 22. Nofortune fish, bottle openers or other stuff to go straight in the bin, but a jolly sticker & terrible joke in each.

HewasH2O · 23/12/2021 16:28

£3.50 for 12, not 22.
