Work deadlines around Christmas

What kind of a lunatic sets deadlines in December?

How am I supposed to focus on writing boring reports when there's mulled wine to have and Christmas music to dance around to? Xmas Grin

What unreasonable behaviour does your place of work partake in?

Light hearted of course

Welcome to my world. I will work until the 23rd full on (24th is free purely because I don't work Fridays).

If we are very unlucky we have two deals closing next week and several documents to issue before Christmas. Our financial year is also the calendar year and with two extra Bank Holidays pressure is on to finish the bookings as early as possible.

Unfortunately that's the norm for me, the only time I have a relaxing week before Christmas is when I take the week off.

Someone attempted to put a 2hr meeting in the calendar for 3pm on 23rd. There was a lot of quiet moaning until one of the bigger bosses sent an email that essentially said 'you must be joking, it's practically Christmas, loads of people will be off etc, move it to January' Xmas Grin

There is one big project that requires input from my dept and it has a deadline in Feb - the project manager has been crap and is miles behind. He keeps trying to rope people in to help and give them deadlines for this week and next week but has been told no by everyone so far.
Sod that - we all worked like crazy through Oct and Nov deliberately so we wouldn't have deadlines and stresses now.

I can't do a lighthearted one as I've had to cancel 2 days leave for the week before Christmas because of something that's been scheduled in. I was told I could leave my part to Jan but it is something I definitely don't want hanging over my head all over Xmas.

On the whole they are good and we've been having time out for Christmas team activities (nice not-cringe ones.)

I have two massive projects to do next year. The plan was to start them in January but the big bosses decided a week ago that it would be useful to get a few things started before Christmas. So this week has been awful but luckily I finish next Tuesday. One week to hold it together. 😳

I used to work in commercial property. Traditionally one of the rent and service charge periods is 25th December. The full period apart from the back holidays was full pelt. Exhausting.

I work in the finance department. Year end is 31 December. Audit starts second week back in January. Every. Year.
