I’m looking at magic sets for a five-year-old. Nothing fancy, just a few tricks. Budget up to £15. Please can anyone recommend one?

This one is brilliant. Such good tricks. My 6 year old loves it.

Agreed. Anything by Marvin is great.

my 6 yr old asked for a magic set one year and then was very disappointed that it didn't teach her to do real magic (to get ready for hogwarts). just a warning.

Most magic sets are 6+ on the box - maybe not a big deal if it's for a 5 year old but I was looking for a simple one for a just turned 4 year old. Melissa & Doug do one for age 4+ called Magic in a Snap. It was hard to get hold of and I think I paid an inflated price on Amazon. We also have a Marvin's magic set for my older child and while I agree it's good it has an insane number of tiny fiddly pieces in it.

Ohh flashback to Christmas when I was about 6, I'd read too many Enid Blytons and was convinced magic was real. Absolutely gutted on Christmas morning, although I tried to pretend I'd known all along! Inside it was like my whole world was destroyed... magic, fairies, gnomes (featured heavily in EB) Mr Pink-Whistle...
