Amazon high value delivery - beware

Ordered an iPad for the kids to share, for Christmas. It was out of stock everywhere for delivery by Christmas, except at amazon. Was due to be delivered today. Instead, delivery was switched to yesterday but we were out. No worries; delivery was attempted and would be reattempted the next day, according to the auto message we had.

However last night while we were out the amazon driver came back and tried to deliver to the babysitter. She didn’t have the security code as we had no warning it was coming last night. Still, no problem, right? She explained she didn’t have the code, we were out, and he said they’d try again today.

Except the driver marked the parcel as “rejected” and so the order was automatically cancelled.

I spent two hours speaking to various people and there is no way to undo the cancellation, instead we have had to order a new one which will be here sometime in January...

So, for anyone else expecting anything similar from amazon, I strongly recommend you sit home waiting with the code so it doesn’t get cancelled.

Have you tried JL? They also offer 2 years warranty

Better than leaving it on the doorstep Hmm I assume it was free delivery in which case YABU to expect them to keep attempting to redeliver it.

I second the PP re: John Lewis. I buy all my electronic goods from them or AO as the customer service is excellent.

Yep, I had to send DS's stuff to my parents to prevent this from happening. If they didn't live nearby I would have been stuffed.

I can't have it sent to my home because I might be at work, I can't have it sent to work because I might be at home (given that amazon deliver in the evening).

What's wrong with the photo of the doorstep all of a sudden?

Is this what Amazon lockers are for?

BashfulClam · 12/12/2021 10:52

You can arrange for it to be sent to a local drop off point. Mine is 5 minutes walk away.

Are people missing the point that they were delivering on the wrong day? On Amazon, you can set deliveries for Amazon Day Delivery, so that all of your orders come on the same day. I frequently do this, then make sure I am home on the Sunday for it, rather than staying home a couple of days a week.

If she's specifically agreed a delivery day, and they haven't stuck to that, then rejected the order, it's very annoying!

Where is your nearest delivery drop off? Why couldn't the babysitter phone you to get the code?

Justmuddlingalong · 12/12/2021 11:08

My recent Amazon orders, due on my chosen delivery day have all arrived a day or 2 early. Which kind of defeats the purpose of setting a particular day when you know you'll be home.

I ordered a £100 gift for DD. I expected a pin and didn't get one. They left it balanced on the recycling bin by my alleyway door, on my path in plain sight of the street.

It's been seen on cctv around here that opportunist theives are following the amazon van around, removing parcels that have been left like that so we are lucky it was still there when I got home.

They were also delivered a day before they said they would, so I wouldn't have been in to take the order as I'd planned to be the next day.

Mine too, I also choose the option where you can have all items delivered together in the same box and they all got delivered separately by different drivers!

Op, I just bought an ipad for my DD, and picked it up the next day at the Apple store.

Maybe you could try that first, and if you get one, simply cancel your Amazon order ?

Omg thank you so much!! Just ordered (it was previously out of stock) - once it’s in my hand I’ll cancel the other. Thank you

It was out of stock everywhere - I normally buy from JL too - and apple eta was February. But hopefully sorted now.

And yes it’s “free” delivery that I pay for via prime membership, and their own terms say they will reattempt delivery the next day, as did the message after, as did the driver when the babysitter answered the door. So I really don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect them to do so rather than just cancelling the whole thing..

@OnlyonemoresleeptilChristmas to the rescue.

JL are ace normally but stock levels have been rubbish recently. Glad it’s sorted and good warning OP. I never knew about high value items needing a code on Amazon.
