My 12 year old has asked for and airsoft/bb gun, which I’ve said a big fat no to!! He now hates me, and I’m so unfair, apparently all his friends will be getting one for Christmas!

Besides the fact that we have no where locally he could go and play it legally/safely/ with rules etc, whatever. I am not buying my 12yr old a gun for Christmas Xmas Hmm

Yes. I say no every year to multiple games consoles. They have one. They are not having another one. I don’t care that the Switch is better for this and Xbox is better for that. PlayStation is what they have. I don’t have the money or inclination to buy and another one.

Soraya5 · 10/12/2021 19:17

My DS asks for an iPad every year, and every year it’s a no. The sky hasn’t fallen in.

Theunamedcat · 10/12/2021 19:21

Nerf guns ds wants "real" nerf guns not the cheap copies they have already so we had a conversation where I asked what did mummy tell you NOT to do with the guns 🙄 "we don't shoot in the face or the privates" aaaaasnnnd what did you do? Shot my brother in the balls...yeah moms not buying you anymore guns

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 10/12/2021 19:26

Could you take him for a rifle / Air rifle shooting experience? Done safely, in controlled environment it is a fun activity.
Or if you don't like guns at all what about archery lessons, axe throwing or something similar?

ChristmasDuvetDay · 10/12/2021 19:36

A dog, I want a dog but we don't have room for a dog and I will not be getting her a dog for Christmas or Birthday anyway when we do have room.

megletthesecond · 10/12/2021 19:37

Yes. Expensive games consoles and mobile phones.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 10/12/2021 19:39

6 year old first asked for a phone, so that's a hard no 😂

They've also asked for a Nerf gun as a present from Santa, which will be a yes.

Slightly tricky though as their best friend has also asked for a Nerf gun and the mum told me that she'd already said no, as Santa doesn't bring guns. Not sure how the 2 kids will square that one away.

LuluBlakey1 · 10/12/2021 19:39

DD has asked for 'a real fairy to have as a pet'.
DS1 asked for 'a shark's tooth' - he's not getting one unless we find one on a beach.

Camomila · 10/12/2021 19:39

I said no to a big lego train set last year (because DS1 was 4 and would have never managed it, he is getting it this year though as he asked for it again and his building skills are lots better now)

I said no to a big orange ride on motorised car this year because we live in a flat!

MushaGodHelpHer · 10/12/2021 19:41

13 yr old DD asked for £200 trainers. I don’t think so, love!

DS wanted an £1800 Samsung flip phone. Behave!

SayAaa · 10/12/2021 19:42

ILs want to get my 3 year old an iPad - it's a NO from me!

BlowDryRat · 10/12/2021 19:44

I've told 9yo DD that she will not be receiving this £70 plastic cauldron. £70! Apparently I can just pay for it using my card Hmm

TisTheSeasonToBeVegan · 10/12/2021 19:46

I don’t think I’ve ever said no to anything for Xmas but if they ever request a gun, it’ll be a definite no! 😮

doodlejump1980 · 10/12/2021 19:49

@LuluBlakey1 you can buy fossilised sharks teeth from deep sea world in Fife. They’re £1

Thegirlhasnamechanged · 10/12/2021 19:49

My 3 year old DD thinks Santa will be bringing her a flying swings fairground ride that we can keep in the garden…

TheGriffle · 10/12/2021 19:50

We have said no to slime this year. We’ve moved house and after numerous slime incidents on the sofa and carpet at the old house, it’s not allowed across the threshold here!

TheGriffle · 10/12/2021 19:50

Also I asked for a dog every single Christmas and birthday for as long as I can remember. Never got one and I (eventually!) forgave my parents.

LaBellaTrix · 10/12/2021 20:15

I remember asking for a kitten and getting a budgie in a cage.

I bloody loved that little blue bird.

He was my best mate during my teenage years, he'd sit on my shoulder and cock his head to one side when I'd wail about how I'd never marry Les McKeown out of the Bay City Rollers because my mum wouldn't even let me go and see them in concert, and then he'd shake his feathery head knowingly.

He was right, I never married Les and I think I dodged a bullet there.

I did eventually get a kitten of my own when I was all grown up and a very contented fat lump of fur he is.

Kids have unrealistic expectations but as long as Santa brings them something, it will be fine. Xmas Grin

TheYearOfSmallThings · 10/12/2021 20:19

DS will not be getting that baby panda, and he will have to find a way to come to terms with that.

MsWalterMitty · 10/12/2021 20:28

Exactly!… What a ridiculous request!!

A Gaming Rig for his future "famous and successful gaming career" - he; is 9.
also an electric scooter

MollysDolly · 10/12/2021 21:09

Firstly, allllllll his friends are not getting one.

There will be a rumour at school that Johnny's dad has got one and now Johnny boasts about how he sits on the roof at night, picking off coyotes/unicorns. And DS has become rather invested, so wants to look like the "cool" kid that's actually got one.

Absolutely not.

WeAllHaveWings · 10/12/2021 21:12

Hoverboard when they were really popular a few years ago, He went on about it for weeks because ALL his friends were getting one.

He got over it before Christmas and it wasnt mentioned on the day, think only one or two actually got them and they never had them with when they went out as the novelty wore off quickly.

XmasElf10 · 10/12/2021 21:12

A ride on car. The ones that really drive. She was told in no uncertain terms that Santa was not providing one of those and neither was I. She got over it!!

Pickles89 · 10/12/2021 21:12

@LuluBlakey1 You can get sharks teeth off ebay? Not expensive.
