My 12 year old has asked for and airsoft/bb gun, which I’ve said a big fat no to!! He now hates me, and I’m so unfair, apparently all his friends will be getting one for Christmas!

Besides the fact that we have no where locally he could go and play it legally/safely/ with rules etc, whatever. I am not buying my 12yr old a gun for Christmas Xmas Hmm

Ds5 and dd7 circled most of the smyths catalogue so I have said a non committal “Probably not” to lots of things

I have said a definite no to a rubbish looking drone thing from the smyths catalogue. As Ds 5 would break it/or something else in less than 10 mins!

Ds 17 is now working and has bought himself all the really expensive Star Wars Lego sets I said no to over the years.

GotToGoBye · 14/12/2021 13:21

Of course! You’re the parent though so no gun!
Imagine if we ignored all our knowledge and experience and didn’t apply it to our parenting.

GotToGoBye · 14/12/2021 13:24

My brother bought one off a friend in youth club once and my mother picked it when tidying his room and I think thought it was a toy, anyway she managed to shoot herself in the leg with it - just the air was enough to break the skin.
He didn’t keep the gun!

@LuluBlakey1

DD has asked for 'a real fairy to have as a pet'. DS1 asked for 'a shark's tooth' - he's not getting one unless we find one on a beach.
You should try messaging Jurassic Jim on Facebook to see if he has any shark's teeth or fossilised shark's teeth. He sells stuff really cheaply and he definitely posted about something like this the other day (his stuff goes really quickly when he posts on FB so you should message him specifically)
Soubriquet · 14/12/2021 13:46

The fairy thing…in America (annoyingly not here yet), they have lantern that “catches” fairy’s a bit like pokemon go. You go out and try and find them and catch them in the lantern. You can then trade them with friends and stuff like thatb

DS used to have a couple of shark teeth! We weirdly inherited them from an old aunt of my ex-h.

If we still have them (will check when I get home from work) I am happy to pass them on.

JenniferWooley · 14/12/2021 20:50

@LuluBlakey1 we still have them! They're yours if you want them just pm me Smile

MadeForThis · 14/12/2021 22:56

Happy Nappers x2 were purchased.

They are only young once.

Thereisnoname · 14/12/2021 23:04

@MadeForThis

Dd6&4 have both requested Happy Nappers (damn that tv advert)

I've spent the last 6 months telling them that Santa doesn't bring Happy Nappers. They won't get used and will break.

But I'm getting Mr Frosty flashbacks and I'm afraid they could be ordered after all.

£75 for glorified pillows. Someone talk me down!!

Mine got happy nappers last year used for a week or so and then not looked at again, after seeing on tv. Quite glad they now mainly watch Netflix or i player so no adverts. This year I've downscale as fed up with stuff they never look at after 24/48 hours.

What is it about Mr Frosty, I never got one either and still slightly bitter some 30 plus year on.

Soubriquet · 15/12/2021 02:35

Can I brag that I did get a Mr Frosty and it was shit Grin

pinkksugarmouse · 15/12/2021 04:20

DD now 19 once asked for a real Tiger. She got a sponsorship with the explanation that the Midlands in the UK isn’t really the ideal habit for one. She was okay with that especially as it came with a named Tiger on the certificate.

FixItUpChappie · 15/12/2021 04:49

Yes many times but in our home wish-lists are hopeful suggestion not orders and we've always be clear about that

MinnieJackson · 15/12/2021 06:52

@CoffeeAndDryShampoo my son asked for a crossbow aswell! Wtf?! He's 7. Also a real suit of armour that was nearly £1000 Confused then he also wanted one of those bloody magi mix things (£70!!) No way. He has a Thor hammer and captain America shield the same as his 3 year old brother and they can enjoy beating each other up with those for an hour until one of us flip and they are put away! And no amazon, they are not soft, they're thick plastic 😂

MinnieJackson · 15/12/2021 06:53

I got a Mr frosty Grin we hardly ever had ice and I buggered it by churning dry roasted peanuts in it Blush

Happy1982ish · 15/12/2021 08:04

@BlowDryRat

I caved last night and bought the cauldron thing. You only get to be 9 and hankering after a bit of expensive plastic tat once. I think I must have been swayed by this review (and the thought of me having a go in the evening Grin).
I bought this yesterday having googled after reading your post!

I did NO research

Is it recommended on mumsnet? At face value my DD will love it but is it actually meant to be any good?!

Soubriquet · 15/12/2021 08:08

I hope so as I have one for dd Smile

I’ve bought the refill kit too to go with it

BlowDryRat · 15/12/2021 09:18

The reviews are good so fingers crossed. I will definitely try it out.

I did too... it was always sticky for some reason even though it only had frozen water in it and never got used because it was useless and impossible to work.
Blondeshavemorefun · 15/12/2021 19:20

I also got a mr frosty. Was so happy and the envy of my friends

Dd has a happy napper. She sleep very well an so hope she does in a sleeping bag 😂

Yep, me too. I was the envy of the most popular girl in school. She came round for tea once and I know she only said yes because of the bloody Mr Frosty.

It was absolute shite. The bastarding thing took three hours to grate an egg cup full of ice, and the syrup was rank.

caringcarer · 15/12/2021 19:46

My dd asked for a pony every year from 3 to about 10. No where to keep a pony. No it can't stay in the garden.

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/12/2021 20:11

Who knew owning a Mr Frosty would still be a flex in your 40’s.

Zoopet · 15/12/2021 21:36

At 6 my daughter wanted a real reindeer.
She's 31 now and still remembers her disappointment at the hastily purchased cuddly one!
It just didn't cut it!
She missed out on Mr. Frosty too...

Littlepaws18 · 15/12/2021 23:21

Mine want a trampoline and fortnight. Told them they are dreaming! Not happening in my garden!

1stTimeMama · 15/12/2021 23:56

I've never said no because Father Christmas brings all of their presents, but I have had to suggest that he doesn't bring live animals or money. One of my sons has £10million, 9 tickets to Rhodes and a lizard on his very long list. But he's also asked for tonic water and 'all of the socks', so hopefully he'll be happy with those!
