My 12 year old has asked for and airsoft/bb gun, which I’ve said a big fat no to!! He now hates me, and I’m so unfair, apparently all his friends will be getting one for Christmas!

Besides the fact that we have no where locally he could go and play it legally/safely/ with rules etc, whatever. I am not buying my 12yr old a gun for Christmas Xmas Hmm

@LuluBlakey1 our local beach throws up loads of fossilised sharks teeth. I have loads but they are quite small. I am happy to post you some if you like, I'm at work at the moment so just need to check when I get home that I haven't chucked them in a decluttering session but dm me your address and I'll happily pass them on if I find them

Unfortunately they both need the large size of Happy Napper which seems to be £39.99 each. Although I'm off to EBay to search for cheaper ones. The unicorn would be their preference. [/quote]
They have put their prices up

Our smaller one was under £20. Now £25

Large ones £37

Things we buy eh

My brother once asked for (and got) a straight jacket and a unicycle
This was the days before the internet so I dread to think how much work went into finding both

Dd1 once asked for a red balloon
She seemed really happy with a packet of them

Her sister once asked for ‘a bunny rabbit pet on a lead or a baby sister’
Never has there been as much work to find her a bunny rabbit pet on a lead in my life-I found one in Asda
It went down well as it had a similar name as her (think molly/holly)

No way was I giving her a sister-she’s the youngest of 6!

Yes of course, most years in fact.

fernsandlilies · 12/12/2021 14:13

rhubarb84 DS has asked for a sword each year for several years, to hang on his bedroom wall.

He's now 17, so he will legally be allowed to buy one himself soon. I can see the attraction tbf, they are very cool and can reflect real craftmanship, but my real fear is that he will have his mates round and in a moment of foolishness someone will start swinging it about.

Holothane · 12/12/2021 14:49

Hang the sword so it can’t be removed from the wall.

unexpectedthird · 12/12/2021 15:09

Yes, my then 4 year old asked for a Tuba...

Happy1982ish · 12/12/2021 16:39

Drunk teens? They will put it off

My nine-year-old wants a VR headset. Too expensive and not really suitable for his age.

My son has one but he was about 15 when he got it, I think kids are meant to be about 12/13 to use them. If you ever do decide to get him one, get him to try it out first somewhere, luckily my son is fine with his but my partner only has to use it for a few minutes and it makes him feel sick. Apparently it’s a common thing.

Soubriquet · 12/12/2021 17:07

Both dc want a vtech kid zoom camera. I’ve said no because it’s the sort of thing they would use 3-4 times and then never resurface

I have bought dd the Magick mixie though Blush

I’m also tempted by the squeekie balloon dinosaur for ds

I can’t recommend the vetch camera more highly Seriously I bought both mine them… 3 years ago

They are still brought out regularly
indestructible too

Soubriquet · 12/12/2021 17:23

Oh no. Don’t tell me that!!!!!!

I’ve about finished Christmas shopping and the cameras were a definite no from my dh.

Happy1982ish · 12/12/2021 17:31

Save for birthday then I would
A really good present

Soubriquet · 12/12/2021 17:33

Both birthdays are in March so it’s a very big possibility

Either that or I’ll end up twitching and buying it anyway Grin

BlowDryRat · 14/12/2021 06:15

I caved last night and bought the cauldron thing. You only get to be 9 and hankering after a bit of expensive plastic tat once. I think I must have been swayed by this review (and the thought of me having a go in the evening Grin).

Echoesandsilence · 14/12/2021 06:28

My DS is easily persuaded so I havent had to say no to anything.

But I do remember a year or two ago, my nephew had asked for lego, tractors and that kind of thing. Then on christmas eve, grandparents asked him what he wanted from Santa and he said a nintendo switch. There was awkward silence until DSis told him he couldnt change his mind so late as the sleigh would already be packed.

UsernameInTheTown · 14/12/2021 06:47

DD7 won't be getting a games console. I want her to be a kid a year or two longer and do child things (she can save for one herself with gift money etc but doesn't want one THAT much!).
Anything Barbie as it is shit quality and hugely overpriced (I don't mind LOL as it has all more than paid for itself cost per use).
Anything from Claires, I detest that shop, vastly overpriced and treat the staff like crap and don't get me started on the ear piercing.
DD does have an air rifle though which she uses on a bit of land we have!

Enidcat5 · 14/12/2021 06:49

T Rex rampage lego set. It's £160 and that's too much.

GuyFawkesDay · 14/12/2021 07:30

@Enidcat5 we got an AliExpress rip off one for £40

I've just told him no that it's too expensive, so he's getting Baryonyx instead! But thank you I'll take a look for birthday 2022 :)

Punfreeusername · 14/12/2021 12:49

A segway. Not happening.

  1. They are about £500 or something
  1. You can walk, it's healthier.

I've put in a request for Graziano off of Strictly this year.

My mum says no, it will be a Waterstones voucher again. Damnit. Angry

I don’t watch Strictly so had to look him up. Your mum is obviously being very unreasonable to deny your request. 😂

Hehe, I was never a regular Strictly viewer before... 😂 Merry Christmas!
