My 12 year old has asked for and airsoft/bb gun, which I’ve said a big fat no to!! He now hates me, and I’m so unfair, apparently all his friends will be getting one for Christmas!

Besides the fact that we have no where locally he could go and play it legally/safely/ with rules etc, whatever. I am not buying my 12yr old a gun for Christmas Xmas Hmm

@BearSoFair

A goat when DD was a toddler. A few months later I was pregnant with DS2, she asked for a goat instead of a baby brother or sister then too Grin
When I was pregnant with DD2 I asked DD1 who was 4 whether she wanted a baby sister or a baby brother.

She said "can't we just have a puppy instead?"

ToughTittyWhompus · 11/12/2021 12:14

DD2 spent 3 years asking for a pack of Velociraptors to train Grin

If they existed, I’d be tempted to get her them, tbh.

KevinTheKoala · 11/12/2021 12:41

A barbie house because we have no space for it and a unicorn for obvious reasons. Thankfully my 5 year old was quite understanding that we haven't got a garden and unicorns need rather large fields Xmas Grin.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 11/12/2021 12:57

I was lucky, my grandson when asked what he wanted for Christmas replied Cheese.

PrincessesRUs · 11/12/2021 14:29

My four year old asked for a real life walking talking Elsa doll! Had to say no to that!!

RestingStitchFace · 11/12/2021 14:41

DS asked for one of those battery operated ride in cars. The £200 jobs. He was already 6 and tall for his age and we figured he'd have less than a year before he outgrew it so....

He got an Amazon Fire instead and was delighted, and it's still in daily use 2 years later so glad we stuck to our guns.

@itspartytime

Daughter (20) wanted a puppy . We lost our dog 3 years ago and I'm not ready to 'replace' him yet. Said no and gave reason .

Her boyfriend then asked too, as he thought he could buy her one for Christmas. Same answer and added that we didn't think she'd understand quite how much work a puppy is.

Came back from a week working away to find a puppy in my dogs bed . He's still here.

The funniest thing is this though, the vet called me, to give me the bill for my daughters dogs injections!

As she'd taken him to our old vets and he now appears to be on my 'account !' Kids !!! Ffs 🤦‍♀️

How long ago was this? Has your daughter looked after him? How do you feel towards the dog? How do you feel towards the boyfriend?!

So many questions!

Happy1982ish · 11/12/2021 14:57

* The year she got me a horse I was shock speechless for the whole day, I don't think I stopped crying*

@NMC2022

And everything else? Stables, field, food, grooming equipment?!

It’s not just the pony - it’s incredibly expensive if you don’t own a paddock and stables already!

Happy1982ish · 11/12/2021 14:58

My first was for @itspartytime

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/12/2021 15:35

@MadeForThis

Dd6&4 have both requested Happy Nappers (damn that tv advert)

I've spent the last 6 months telling them that Santa doesn't bring Happy Nappers. They won't get used and will break.

But I'm getting Mr Frosty flashbacks and I'm afraid they could be ordered after all.

£75 for glorified pillows. Someone talk me down!!

£75

You were robbed

I got dd4 one off eBay for less then £20

Unicorn

AdoraBell · 11/12/2021 16:36

Gucci hand bag when DD was 17. Bloody social media Hmm

lilmishap · 11/12/2021 16:45

DS reeeallly wants the Mcallister Home Alone house lego set.

It's 230squids and he's six and I hate building lego at the best of times so that's a no......but if he was old enough to build the damn thing himself I probably would have done

CoffeeChocolateWine · 11/12/2021 16:58

When my DS was about 6 or 7, he asked for some new school uniform 😂 That felt really good! He did get some new school uniform but there was no way we were calling it a Christmas present!

Hoppinggreen · 11/12/2021 17:02

I told DS he wasn’t getting the requested £300 trainers

MsWalterMitty · 11/12/2021 17:26

@Wrongaddress

I got my then 14 yo an airsoft gun a few years ago...
What did he do with it?

iPads/iPhones/any expensive tech that may get broken /lost!

Blinkingbatshit · 11/12/2021 17:56

We also got an air soft gun a few years ago - but we live in the middle of nowhere so can shoot at cans & targets without impacting anyone else!

MadeForThis · 11/12/2021 18:01

@Blondeshavemorefun

Unfortunately they both need the large size of Happy Napper which seems to be £39.99 each. Although I'm off to EBay to search for cheaper ones. The unicorn would be their preference.

Mirw · 11/12/2021 18:13

Why not compromise and give him shooting lessons at a range? This is not as mad as it sounds. We (all 5 of us) we're taught to shoot when we were a lot younger than your boy. Apart from my brother who is a vet, none of the rest of us has seen the need to pick up a gun since. None of us (not even the strange brother) have seen the need to kill anything with a gun, except for the vet. Knowing how to shoot does not make killers. That is already in the person's brain...

Turning in to a killer wasn’t my worry… it was that we have nowhere he could use it safely. Plus he wants to use it in the local woods with his friends and I don’t reckon any of them are mature enough not to accidentally cause serious damage to each other or someone else

@Happy1982ish

"Has your daughter looked after him?
How do you feel towards the dog?
How do you feel towards the boyfriend?!"

Answers
Yes she's doing a fab job - but she looks and feels knackered

He's super cute and I am obviously smitten - but I currently have covid so can't actually touch him. He's confused as, obviously, I was his favourite human before this !!

Boyfriend hasn't admitted he bought the pup - but can't see her having that kind of dosh. He's a nice lad. And he's helping with pup too. They both look like new parents, sleep deprived and happy !

itspartytime · 11/12/2021 19:13

@Happy1982ish

Doh! it missed the first question - all this happened two /three weeks ago - she got him while DH and I were working away for the week.

Lovemusic33 · 11/12/2021 19:14

I’m sure I have said no to many things, dc are now teens.

My brother had a BB gun when we were kids, he shot me with it many times (on the bum), not sure why my mother ever let him get one. We did have black widow sling shots which were also pretty dangerous when loaded with a stone 😬.

GuyFawkesDay · 11/12/2021 19:21

I once got asked for a real life dinosaur.

Bless DS. He's still a Dino nerd.

Cutesbabasmummy · 11/12/2021 21:07

The t rex hotwheels set - hot wheels are way overrated, its huge and its like £79 and ges not even that keen on hotwheels. And a weird dancing orange monkey called tan tan! A 5 minute wonder!
