Hi, unfortunately DH and I cannot see family this Xmas (due to numerous circumstances).

What can we cook on Xmas day (and days before/after) just for the two of us? Obvs can't do massive turkey. Chicken then? I think I should do only few side dishes, but which ones?

Im also pregnant so can't really do seafood or alcohol. Cheese is limited tooConfused

Please help us with your ideas, I'm absolutely gutted about not seeing our family so need to have a good menu so we can have a lovely day just the two of us.

Thank you!

Yes I was thinking of duck pancakes the next day. Jamie Oliver has a very good recipe for the plum sauce & the pancakes. Or you could go to an Asian store and use Vietnamese rice paper for wraps with sesame seeds and finely slice spring onions, cucumber, Asian basil or coriander etc etc.

Lot of delicious ideas posted for you @FridaRose. You can freeze some meals if you end up cooking more than the two of you care to eat. Be very handy later when you are recovering from childbirth.

If you cook a duck to be crispy then the following day you can have duck pancakes with hoisin sauce.

You could do two meats, duck and chicken or pork.

Sides:

Pigs in blankets, obviously
Sprouts with something, pancetta, chestnuts, peas even
Roast potatoes
Mashed potatoes with garlic and parsnip
Roast parsnips with honey
Cauliflower cheese
Mashed turnips with cream and bacon lardons
Mashed carrot and swede

Any and all mashed veg can be fried in butter the following day as a fancy bubble and squeak, with some bacon and a fried egg.

Any whole veg can be put into a cheese sauce for another meal.

Starters, some easy ones

Fig, cut at an angle to put some brie in, wrap bacon round and bake for 10 mins.

Melon with serrano ham

Courgette and coriander soup - this can be served chilled with a swirl of cream or crème fraiche.

Filo pastry parcels, you can do any filling you feel like, brie with mango chutney, salmon and cream cheese, beans and passatta.

Chicken liver pate

I know there are a lot of cheeses in these but you could substitute with what ever you like.
