Hi, I dont normally host and it makes me feel nervous! I am seeing my Dad, step mum and brother boxing day, Dad normally hosts and its a lovely day.
I was thinking of hosting so me and my children can be home for the day as out all day xmas day. What do I cook?!

What does your dad usually do? A buffet is pretty traditional for Boxing Day - nice big ham, coleslaw, potato salad (or you could do jacket potatoes), cheese, quiche etc.

What do you all like to eat?

My dad would do a buffet style lunch/ dinner. I could do that.

Buffet - ham, left over turkey, charcuterie, cheese, pate, pickles, gherkins etc.

Or I've done ham egg and chips or bubble. Do your own ham, duck eggs because it's Christmas if you can be bothered to cook again.

I’d go for something easy:

  • Pasta bake/lasagne with salads and garlic bread
  • Jacket potatoes (with a chili if you can be bothered- you could definitely make it a couple of days in advance, served with sour cream, grated cheese and guacamole). Otherwise a few different toppings like grated cheese, tuna mayo, coleslaw etc and cold meats and salads.
  • Buffet. I’d probably stick to things that you can buy in advance (cold meats and cheeses, deli stuff) and then make a few salads in the morning and maybe some warm new potatoes with butter.
  • Something you can easily make a big portion of and can happily sit in the fridge for a couple of days and then just be reheated on the day (sausage casserole, beef bourguignon, curry, soup etc). Then you just need to make mashed potatoes/rice/get some nice bread.
