Teen driving experiences - recommendations please

Hi - DS's 13th birthday is at the end of this month and I'd like to get him a driving experience as he loves cars. Has anyone done this and got specific recommendations as online reviews tend to be mixed.

I'm not sure whether to get a driving lesson or a supercar experience so any types are appreciated. We're in the NW.

Thank you!

I'd recommend Car Chase Heroes - a relative works for them as an instructor so they definitely do teen experiences with several different car options and they run events all over the UK

Sparticle · 08/12/2021 14:00

Thanks @HarryBob - I'll definitely check them out!

We use Young Driver.

Thepowerofthelook · 08/12/2021 14:07

Used young drivers (got a groupon) had a great experience. I would imagine that it depends on the individual instructor.

Thanks all - Car Chase Heroes and Young Drivers both look perfect. Just need to decide whether we want to go for a proper lesson or more of an 'experience' drive. Flowers

Dd loved young drivers. I didn’t know about the car chase at all. Don’t you need to drive a bit first before doing it to make the experience worthwhile?

gamerchick · 08/12/2021 15:17

We use young driver. Youngest gets one every year on his birthday when covid doesn't interfere. He loves it.

zighead · 08/12/2021 15:26

I'm thinking of this for Christmas for DS. Do those of you that have purchased before for your children, recommend half an hour or an hour lesson?

gamerchick · 08/12/2021 15:28

I get half an hour, it's a decent chunk of time.

We went for 1 hour simply because it was a fair drive away. I’m glad we did this as the first lesson was about how to use the controls and so forth. I’m sure more regular lessons would be fine as 1/2 hour slots once you know the basics.

Anyone in Gloucester ish area should check out the under 17 car club. They do meetings every month - locations mainly in the South West.

One of mine went to a supercar driving thing at Three Sisters track in Wigan and absolutely loved it. I think the company was called Track Days/Trackdays. It was all very well organised, with a huge choice of cars to drive, and the chance to be taken for a spin by a pro.

Sparticle · 09/12/2021 09:20

Thanks @LubaLuca, that would be the track we'd use I think.

You've all be really helpful :)

Mine did Young Drivers and loved it. He regularly did it until he passed his driving test. He mostly did the hour lessons as he preferred that to the half hour ones.

Sparticle · 09/12/2021 16:00

Just to let you know I have booked a two supercar driving experience plus high speed passenger ride with Car Chase Heroes, so thank you @HarryBob! We will definitely book Young Drivers in the future but thought at this age, DS would prefer the excitement of the supercars more.

I got the idea from another MN thread, so I'm very grateful to you all :)

Hope he enjoys it!

We used Young Driver too for our DDs 14th birthday present, she did it 2 weeks ago and absolutely loved it. Very well ran and the instructor was lovely.

LubaLuca · 09/12/2021 18:50

He'll have a fabulous time. It's an amazing experience for youngsters.

JustMeNow1 · 09/12/2021 18:53

Young Driver lessons have been brilliant for my two. Loads of locations to choose from which is handy.
