Is there a shop I can go to in person and buy a goose? I can only find them available as part of ordering Christmas food eg booths food to order.

A butcher

Stompythedinosaur · 07/12/2021 21:34

Most butchers can order a goose surely?

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 07/12/2021 21:38

You can get a frozen one in any supermarket.

The Goose Chandler is the traditional place.

Aldi sell them

Ocado have Gressingham geese, £85 for a six kilo bird to feed ten people. Will be available in other supermarkets too.

We ordered ours from the local butcher. Morrisons had them frozen when I was in there the other day

Thanks everyone, much appreciated!

Sainsburys sell them frozen. I had one last year, and the year before. Lovely.

I am curious about goose. I always heard they were very greasy so have never tried it.

We got a frozen one from Lidl last year and were so impressed we got another one this year.

Goose is delicious. It’s expensive and you don’t get a lot on the carcass like you do on a turkey, and yes it is quite fatty. But you drain off the fat for roast potatoes for ages, and the carcass makes the most delicious stock for soup.

I’m off to Lidl tomorrow to see if they have any left.
