Book subscription recommendation?

Has anyone seen a good deal for a book subscription? I'm going down rabbit holes of expensive options and wondered if anyone can recommend and if it's a bargain then even better

I would say this also - all the good independents run this service and they are usually really helpful with suggestions!

Ooh thanks. I shall delve. I am a charity shop book person myself but love a good book shop. New or old.

It's not a bargain but the Daunts subscription is the best present I've ever given. I've renewed my husband's every year for the our anniversary for the last five years because the choices are so tailored to him and we've done one for my mum for the last three years. She gets a book every other month because it's so pricey but funnily enough she called me today to tell me how wonderful this month's choice was again. The more info the recipient can give about likes and dislikes the better.

What type of books do they like?

I enjoy Reposed - literary fiction and a few treats (things like eye mask/body oil, maybe a scented tea light, a sweet treat and a hot drink (tea /coffee /hot choc). The books are always well selected. It's quite reasonably priced too.

Or for lighter reading I enjoyed the Feel Good Book Club- an uplifting easy read plus a few little bits (stationery, sweets, hot drink)

What kind of thing? For yourself or for a gift?

Rare birds books or books that matter are both good. National book tokens do a voucher that essentially supplies a book a month.

Not a trad book subscription, but National Book Tokens have just announced a new gift card that ‘releases’ a set amount each month (so the recipient goes & buys the book themselves). You can choose the monthly amount, I think.

On the other end of the price-spectrum I’m convinced a Hatchard’s subscription is a great deal for whoever buys me one... Grin www.hatchards.co.uk/help/hatchards-subscriptions

These are my favourite: www.biggreenbookshop.com/

A brilliant independent and they really tailor their recommendations. It’s not in a swanky box or anything but the bloke who runs the bookshop does loads of social good - I’ve given this to a few people and they’ve all been really happy.
