Who do your DC give presents to?

We tend to give gifts signed from all of us- me, DP, DS, DD.

DS and DD (teens) have also made some bullace gin which they are putting into nice bottles with Christmassy labels for everyone, which is just from them.

Just wondered what everyone else did and at what age DC tend to start buying proper gifts for wider family?

9&12 I give them a budget and they choose each other something. Same with DH. They make something for grandparents and B&SIL.

Each other, and is. That's it. They don't really have anyone else to give gifts to.

And Us

Mine is 14, and for the first time he wants to go into town with his own money and buy proper presents for his three best friends. I'll sort something for DH from him and everything else is from all of us.

No one. Aged 11 and 13. Not even each other.

moomoogalicious · 06/12/2021 13:23

Each other, us, bf/gf and dc3 buys for friends

Just our immediate family. DC are 13, 9 and 3.

In previous years, I used to buy a few smaller gifts each and then ask them which one they would to be from them. This year was the first year I took the older two Christmas shopping to choose their own presents to give. They are buying for each other, their little sister, me and DH.

We also do a photo calendar to give grandparents which is supposedly from them, but they obviously have no part in that!!

CoffeeChocolateWine · 06/12/2021 16:02

Actually, my DD(9) also buys for her three closest friends.

Lovemusic33 · 06/12/2021 16:04

No one.
I buy gifts that are from all of us, until they have a job I wouldn’t expect them to buy gifts.

@Lovemusic33

No one. I buy gifts that are from all of us, until they have a job I wouldn’t expect them to buy gifts.

Mine have always given each other gifts, they didn't start paying for it themselves until they had jobs but it was something I encouraged from a very young age.

We started to give our sons money to buy us both a present each when they were about 7 and 12 - old enough to walk into a shop together alone.

They've chosen birthday presents for each other from an early age, we never bothered with Christmas.

Now DS1 is working, he buys his own present for us all for birthday/Christmas. This is the first year, so I'll give DS2 some money to go shopping for presents for the rest of us.

Other than that, no other presents. I think DS1 has bought a couple for friends over the years, but that's it.

jendifer · 06/12/2021 17:21

Each other, us and a friend or two. They get a say in the cousin gifts and choose a (food) gift for the grandparents but I usually pay for those.

Borracha · 06/12/2021 17:24

Mine are 5, 3 and 3 months and they all buy presents for each other. Well, the older two chose and of course I pay! They also chose a present for both DH and I, and also for their nanny. I think it’s important they understand Christmas is just as much about giving as it is receiving.

HelloDulling · 06/12/2021 17:28

No, everything is from us all. Though DD always buys for a few of her friends.

caringcarer · 06/12/2021 17:49

My DC have bought gifts for grandparents, me and DH and each other from about age 6 from their pocket money. They get extra allowance in December.

WildStallyn · 06/12/2021 17:58

I get the DC something to give to their dad and he gets something for them to give to me. They 'choose' but we nudge them in the right direction (they're 8 and 5).

We get small gifts from them to their aunts, uncle and grandparents too - just little boxes of chocolates or similar.

reluctantbrit · 06/12/2021 18:09

DD buys for me and DH plus two. of her school friends (£5-ish). We exchange presents with friends but I pay for them.

I wouldn't expect DD to buy for wider family, she is included in the gifts we. give.
